Choteau FFA returned Saturday from a wonderful trip to the 98th National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana. Porter Martin, Trae Hitchcock, Tristan Rammell, Jacob Passmore, Owen Wellington, and Dillon Field had a very jam packed fun 3 days in Indianapolis. Wednesday we jumped right in with our career tour of Corteva Agriscience where they learned about how chemicals are tested and made, also how seeds are selectively bred to build a better plant for certain areas. We also spent a little time at the convention center ending our day with burgers and a milkshake at Culvers.
Thursday we had an early morning taking in the Opening session of National Convention. We heard from Keynote Speaker A'ric Jackson, Mayor of Indianapolis and also the National FFA Band and Choir. After the General session the officers went to the Career Fair and Expo where there were 274 different exhibitors discussing college plans and different career paths in Agriculture. They also went through the FFA Mega store and mall where there were 38 different vendors selling Ag related clothes and items. We ended Thursday with a quick tour of Indianapolis Motor Speedway where the Indy 500, we kissed the bricks which is a tradition for Indy 500 race winners, we walked through their museum and then went bowling after dinner to have some officer bonding.
Friday was a very early morning for the crew as we began with our day of service where we cleared an unwanted/invader tree species from a local park to not only improve the looks of the park, but to help return it to as natural a state as possible. Then Later in the afternoon we took in a rodeo showing and finished our Friday with a walk through downtown Indianapolis and supper at The Old Spaghetti Factory. Saturday we finished off the week with another session and American Degree Award Ceremony before we began our trip back home.
I would like to thank Matt Passmore for driving us to the airport and back, Fairfield FFA Advisor John Park and Sara Park for being chaperones while a Fairfield FFA member received his American Degree. We would also like to extend our deepest Thank You to our Choteau Community for continually supporting our FFA with travel expenses and other forms of support. This gives the FFA the opportunity to have these experiences and learn more about Agriculture in our community and world.
