⛈️❗️Just a couple of reminders regarding storm season and public shelters. ⛈️❗️

🌪️The Early Childhood Center is a public shelter and is regulated by school staff. If a tornado warning is issued for our area, staff will open the shelter to the public. Use the north doors for entrance. The shelter is the school cafeteria and therefore animals are not allowed, and smoking is also prohibited.

🌪️The public storm shelter located next to the city hall is in need of repairs and is closed until further notice.

🚨 The tornado sirens are meant to be an outdoor warning system; they are not designed to alert you while indoors.

📻 📱 You should have more than one way to alert you for weather emergencies, such as emergency alerts and apps on your cell phone, or a weather radio.

🚔 During severe weather our officers are busy responding to emergencies and storm spotting This page is not intended to be used as an emergency alert system, as we are not able to update this page frequently and it is not able to be monitored 24/7.

Did you get this message? Yes, it's a phishing scam, here are just a few obvious signs:

1. There's no Municipal St. Louis County in the State of Oklahoma.

2. Case number looks off and isn't related to Oklahoma courts.

3. Phrases like “final notice,” are meant to create panic.

4. Lists multiple unrelated violations together (toll evasion, parking, speeding) without dates, locations, or case specifics.

5. Overly urgent, threatening tone is a classic scam tactic.

6. Over-the-top consequences like credit score impact tied to social security number, contempt proceedings, misspelled words.

7. Scammers use QR codes to quickly direct victims to fraudulent payment sites - DO NOT SCAN!!!!

8. If this were an Oklahoma violation, it would be handled by an Oklahoma court—not one in Missouri.

Stay vigilant, trust your gut, and please share this to help others from falling for these convincing, fear-based traps.

Today, Officer Barney had the honor of supporting one of our local Special Olympics athletes, Elizabeth, during her powerlifting competition in Jenks.

Elizabeth gave it her all and placed 1st in every event she competed in! 💪🥇

Powerlifting in the Special Olympics showcases incredible strength and determination, with athletes competing in lifts such as the bench press, deadlift, and squat.

We are incredibly proud of Elizabeth and the hard work, dedication, and perseverance she showed today. Achievements like this are a reminder that with determination and heart, anything is possible.

👏 Join us in congratulating Elizabeth on an outstanding performance! 👏

A Fire Watch has been issued for Mayes County. This week is not a good week to plan any outdoor burning but Thursday will be especially dangerous. The forecast is expecting winds to 30 mph and humidity near 15%. The humidity is very low for Eastern Oklahoma and will cause very aggressive fire behavior. Expect a Red Flag Warning for Mayes County Thursday and please do your part to keep a wildfire from being a disaster.
