Please do not burn anything over the next couple of days. Call 911 immediately to report any fires as they will spread very quickly.

A Fire Watch has been issued for Mayes County. This week is not a good week to plan any outdoor burning but Thursday will be especially dangerous. The forecast is expecting winds to 30 mph and humidity near 15%. The humidity is very low for Eastern Oklahoma and will cause very aggressive fire behavior. Expect a Red Flag Warning for Mayes County Thursday and please do your part to keep a wildfire from being a disaster.

Turn around, don’t drown….
Please do not put your life or ours at risk by driving around barriers and into flooded areas. We have several roads in the county that are flooded. Given the amount of rain we have already received, additional roads will flood fast with this next round of storms. Do not assume that the water isn’t deep. It doesn’t take much water to sweep a vehicle off the roadway and you cannot tell if the road or culverts have been washed out. It’s simply not worth the risk.

There is an elevated chance for severe weather this afternoon. Large hail, strong winds and large tornadoes are all possible. Now is the time to review your safety plans and get prepared. Here are a few reminders to help you prepare for severe weather.
•Clean out your storm shelter
•Make sure your flashlights and phones are charged.
•Make sure you have reliable sources for weather updates such as a weather radio etc..

The storm shelter at the Early Childhood Center will be opened if a tornado warning is issued (Reminder absolutely no pets and no smoking). The storm siren in Chouteau Hills is not currently working. The city is aware and are awaiting on the repairs to be done by the technician. The storm shelter at the city is closed and will remain closed.

We will be testing the sirens this morning. Please do not be alarmed, we are doing repairs to one of them and need to verify it’s working properly.

PLEASE READ AND SHARE-Important updates regarding this evenings storm potential, the storm sirens and shelters.
🚨There is a chance of severe weather late tonight. Strong winds, large hail and an isolated tornado are all possible. A tornado watch has been issued for our area as a precaution. Please be weather aware and have a reliable source for weather updates as we are not always able to make updates during the storms.

🚨The tornado sirens at the old city hall / Senior Citizen Center & Dollar store are not working. A work order has been placed and the town is waiting on the technician to service them. Also, please remember that sirens are an outdoor warning system and are not designed to alert those indoors.

🚨If a tornado warning is issued, the shelter at the Early Childhood Center will be opened to the public. Use the North Doors for entrance. There will be absolutely no pets allowed in the building and no to***co products are allowed on school property.

🚨The storm shelter located at the city hall is NOT and will NOT be open for use. If a tornado warning is issued, the only shelter that will be open, will be the one at the Early Childhood Center at the School.
