On July 16, 2026, at approximately 2300 hours, Officer D. Lawson conducted a traffic stop for a vehicle code violation. Upon contact of the driver, he observed a loaded handgun in plain view on the passenger seat. As the investigation continued, officers recovered approximately 23.6 grams of methamphetamine. The loaded firearm was found to not be registered to the driver, nor was it legally transported.

The adult male driver was arrested and booked into the Madera County Jail on multiple felony charges.

On 07/13/2026, at approximately 1700 hours, officers responded to the area of East Robertson Blvd. and the Ash Slough regarding a reported stabbing. During the course of the investigation officers located the victim who suffered from minor injuries and was cleared by medical personnel on scene. A short time later officers located the suspect in the area of N. Chowchilla Blvd. and Kings Ave. Upon contact, officers observed that the suspect also suffered from a stab wound to his lower back. Members of the Chowchilla Volunteer Fire Department as well as American Ambulance responded and arrived on scene to provide medical aid. The suspect was stabilized and transported by medical personnel to Community Regional Medical Center due to his injuries.

This is believed to be an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public.

On July 3, 2026, Officer C. Lawson observed illegal fireworks being set off near 11th Street and Robertson Boulevard. A traffic stop of a vehicle leaving the area, led to four adult males being arrested, cited, and released for possession of dangerous fireworks and controlled substances.

The City of Chowchilla has a zero-tolerance policy for illegal fireworks. We want to take this as an opportunity to remind the public to celebrate safely this weekend.

On April 30, 2023 at approximately 11pm, Chad Hinesley, was shot and killed in the City of Chowchilla. This is an open and ongoing case and we are asking anyone with information, please come forward and help us bring justice to Chad and his family.

Every person of a homicide like this and their family, deserve to have justice for their loss.

This city belongs to all of us and most importantly, YOU! A crime like this should never happen here. Anyone who commits a crime like this, should be held accountable!

This past week, officers of the Chowchilla Police Department were successful in removing two fi****ms off the street.

On 06/06/2026, at approximately 0030 hours, officers responded to the area of 12th St. and Humboldt Ave. for a report of shots fired. Officers responded and conducted a vehicle stop on a vehicle driving suspiciously in the area. During the course of the investigation, officers located a stolen handgun in the vehicle. The driver, 18-year-old Hayden Morley and a 17-year-old juvenile (both of Merced County) were both arrested for numerous firearm related charges as well as the driver for contributing to the delinquency to a minor. Morley was booked into the Madera County Jail, and the juvenile was booked into the Madera County Juvenile Hall.

On 06/09/2026, at approximately 1140 hours, officers responded to the area of 1st St. and Alameda Ave. for a report of shots fired. Once officers arrived on scene, Officers contacted Ricardo Correa Perez. During the course of the investigation a search warrant was served at the subject’s residence. Perez was subsequently arrested and booked into the Madera County Jail for numerous firearm related charges. ~S2
