Please make sure to come into the Police Department lobby and fill out a tip sheet. On December 7th during the Christmas tree lighting we will pull a girls name and boys name out of the box to win a bicycle donated by the Chowchilla City Police Officers Association. Help us locate the Grinch.

Chief Palmer recently had an interview discussing frequently asked questions on the Measure "N" renewal.

10/24/2024

The Chowchilla City Police Officers Association has learned of a recent post that is providing disinformation on the Measure N Public Safety Sales Tax renewal. So let’s set the record straight! Measure N is a tax measure passed by the voters within the City of Chowchilla in 2018. This tax measure has and will continue to dedicate funding to be spent only on public safety for hiring, retention, and equipment for both the Chowchilla Police Department and Chowchilla Fire Department and nothing or nobody else. It has had a tremendous impact on our departments in combating crime and response to emergencies and will continue to do so.

The Public Safety Sales Tax has an Oversight Committee comprised of five community members that serves as an advisory body to review expenditures and appropriations of the public safety sales tax revenues to comply with its intended purpose. That means the money can’t be allocated or distributed without the proper approval.

Once again Measure N is a renewal and not a new tax and ultimately provides amazing services and resources back to our beautiful community.

What is Measure N?

A YES vote on Measure N, keeps Chowchilla safe! Measure N prevents devastating cuts to Chowchilla’s police and fire services- without increasing taxes!
• Measure N is NOT a tax increase
• Measure N is NOT a tax on your home or property.

Yes on N reauthorizes funding Chowchilla voters previously approved, and protects local control over our public safety money. By law Measure N is legally required to be spent in Chowchilla for our local 911, Police and Fire services. For too long, Sacramento politicians have grabbed millions of dollars from small cities, including Chowchilla.
Yes on N supports our Chowchilla Volunteer Fire Department’s fire protection and emergency medical response services. It also assists in hiring personnel, much needed training, funds fire protection equipment, helps update outdated firefighting equipment including fire engines, and maintains safety to public parks, neighborhoods, and recreational areas. Measure N also assists in our fire departments ability to train local businesses and schools in fire prevention training.
Yes on N also prevents cuts to on-duty officers and patrol vehicles, and other police equipment. It helps our police officers fight violent crime, property crimes and the fight against illegal narcotics like Fentanyl that’s affecting our community. Measure N provided funds for our police officers which is commonly used for investigations to ensure criminals are brought to justice and prosecuted to the fullest.

Since Measure N was passed in 2018:
• Residential burglaries have been reduced by 79%
• Petty Thefts reduced by 54%
• Homicides reduced by 50%
• Vehicle Burglaries reduced by 32%
• Vandalisms reduced by 23%
• Proactive Policing has increased by more than 19%
• The Chowchilla Volunteer Fire Department has had an increase in proactivity including responding to fire/ medical aid calls and had a 300% increase in call volume alone.
Without a YES on Measure N, these services are likely to be reduced which would only make our beloved community suffer.
