What a night at National Night Out! 🚓🚒🚑📞
NRV 911 was proud to join our public safety partners and so many local families for a wonderful evening of community, conversation, and fun at Huckleberry Park.
The evening began with the presentation of the colors and the National Anthem—a beautiful and meaningful start to the event.
At our table, children had the chance to try using portable radios and practice “dispatching” some very important calls—everything from a large gathering at the popcorn machine to a sticky emergency at the shaved-ice station! One young visitor even confidently dispatched responders to meet “a child who knows his home address,” which may have been our favorite call of the evening. 💙
The crowd, music, and excitement sometimes made radio traffic a little challenging, but the children who gave it a try had a great time.
We also talked with families about when and how to call 911, handed out plenty of coloring books, pencils, stickers, and candy, and answered questions about careers in emergency communications.
Our team also enjoyed the many demonstrations and activities offered throughout the event, including an impressive medical helicopter landing, K-9 demonstrations, the Virginia State Police distracted-driving simulator, and several other activities provided by our public safety and community partners.
Thank you to everyone who stopped by to meet us, ask questions, and learn a little more about the people behind the headset. We loved seeing so many families, first responders, community organizations, and neighbors gathered together on such a beautiful evening.
It was also a wonderful opportunity to spend time with our fellow public safety partners—the people and agencies we work alongside every day to serve the New River Valley. Events like National Night Out remind us that public safety is truly a team effort.
We were proud to represent New River Valley 911 and the emergency communications professionals who serve our community every day.
More photos may be coming as our team shares them, but here are a few moments from a very busy and memorable evening!
