Today members of the Town of Christiansburg, VA staff joined Christiansburg Police Department to wear blue in recognition of Child Abuse Prevention Day.

The Town and CPD are continuing to bring awareness throughout the month of April. While wearing blue may not end child abuse, our hope is that it may spark conversation within our community.

If you suspect child abuse, please call the Child Protective Services Hotline at (800) 552-7096. As always, if you or someone you know are in immediate danger, please call 911.

We are still accepting donations for the next bed build event that takes place on April 10, 2026.

If you are able, we are in need of monetary and bedding donations. Please make checks payable to Christiansburg Middle School with a note in the memo line regarding Sleep In Heavenly Peace. There are many SHP chapters across the nation, so giving directly to CMS ensures your donation goes directly to the NRV chapter. You can also mail donations to Christiansburg Middle School at 1205 Buffalo Drive Christiansburg, Virginia 24073 or call Joni King at 540-250-2731 to have a donation picked up.

The Christiansburg Police Department is asking for your help giving children in our community a comfortable and safe place to sleep.
Sleep In Heavenly Peace (SHP) is a nationwide organization whose goal is to ensure that no child goes without a comfortable place to sleep. SHP works to provide beds, pillows, mattresses, and bedding for any child in need.

In the spring of 2025 the students and staff at Christiansburg Middle School partnered with SHP to build 40 beds for kids in need right here in the New River Valley.

The next build will take place April 10, 2026. A build begins with a large pile of lumber and lots of power tools, sanders, and bolts. While we can easily provide the manpower to complete the build, we need help funding our build. Each bed, including the bedding, costs approximately $250. That means building 40 beds, will cost approx. $10,000.

Will you help us give the kids in our community a safe, warm and comfortable place to sleep?

There is a rise in scams across our region. Some scammers are claiming to be local law enforcement.

REMEMBER:
• No government agency or utility company will ever demand payment in Bitcoin.
• If someone asks you to send cryptocurrency to resolve an issue, it’s a scam.
• Hang up, block the number, and report suspicious calls.
Help us spread the word—especially to friends, family, and neighbors who may be more vulnerable to these tactics.

The Christiansburg Police Department is warning our community about ongoing Bitcoin scams targeting local residents. Scammers often pretend to be government officials, utility companies, or even law enforcement. They will pressure you to make payments using Bitcoin ATMs or cryptocurrency wallets.

This morning, we took a moment to honor Rango – a loyal K9 partner and beloved friend of Christiansburg Police officer, Adam Abdelaziz.

Family and fellow Christiansburg Police officers attended a heartfelt memorial in Rango's honor. It was a special moment to recognize that the bond between a K9 and their officer is unlike any other.

The Christiansburg Police Department would like to extend a thank you to Heavenly Pets of Wytheville, VA for their compassion and providing free crematory services.
