Today, we officially signed the lease agreement between the City of Chula Vista and the Sweetwater Union High School District to bring Launch Virtual Academy to the new Millenia Library.

This partnership expands educational opportunities for students in grades 7–12 by providing a dedicated space where teachers will deliver online instruction from 39 state-of-the-art education pods inside the library. Classes are set to begin later this month, creating a unique learning environment that combines technology, education, and community resources.

I look forward to seeing the positive impact this partnership will have on families and students throughout Chula Vista.

Happy 4th of July, Chula Vista! Today we celebrate the freedoms we hold dear, and we remember that those freedoms were never guaranteed. They were won and expanded through the courage of generations who fought, marched, organized, and sacrificed. This Independence Day, we honor their legacy by continuing that work together to build a more just and inclusive Chula Vista. Wishing everyone a safe 4th filled with family, community, and gratitude.

As a Councilmember, it is crucial to work with our County representatives to bring real solutions to our District 1 constituents. I was proud to join County Supervisor Paloma Aguirre at two important community forums focused on supporting our local businesses and enhancing public safety.

These conversations gave residents, business owners, and community leaders the opportunity to ask questions, share ideas, and connect directly with city and county resources. By working together across all levels of government, we can better address the issues that matter most to our neighborhoods.

Thank you to everyone who joined us, shared your perspectives, and helped make these forums a success. Your voices help shape our priorities, and I remain committed to building a safer, stronger, and more prosperous Chula Vista together.

Today we celebrate Juneteenth, a day that honors freedom, resilience, and the long journey toward justice for all. On June 19, 1865, the last enslaved people in Galveston, Texas finally learned they were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. Here in Chula Vista, we carry that history forward by recommitting to a community where equity, opportunity, and dignity are within reach for everyone.

June is Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month, a time to support the millions of individuals and families affected by Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia.

Alzheimer’s impacts not only those living with the disease, but also the loved ones and caregivers who walk alongside them every day. By increasing awareness, encouraging early detection, and connecting families with support services, we can help ensure that no one faces this journey alone.

My heart is with the Filipino community and everyone affected by the recent earthquake. Natural disasters leave behind more than physical damage, they disrupt lives, separate families, and create uncertainty for entire communities.

During moments like these, we are reminded of the strength, resilience, and unity that define the Filipino people. As recovery efforts continue, we stand in solidarity with those who are grieving, rebuilding, and supporting one another through this challenging time.

Please know that you are not alone. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those impacted, and we remain hopeful for the safety, healing, and recovery of every family and community affected.

Together, we stand with the Philippines. 🇵🇭

Today, we honor and remember the service members who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our country. Memorial Day is a time to reflect on the courage, selflessness, and dedication of those who gave their lives to protect the freedoms we enjoy every day.

We also hold close the families, loved ones, and communities who carry their memory forward. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Today we honor the legacy of Harvey Milk, whose courage and leadership helped change the course of history. Harvey Milk believed that visibility matters, that every person deserves dignity, and that communities grow stronger when everyone has the freedom to live openly and authentically.

Harvey Milk Day is a reminder that progress is built by people willing to speak up, organize, and fight for a more just and inclusive future. As we celebrate his life and impact, we also recognize the work that continues to ensure every member of our community feels safe, valued, and represented.
