Join the City of Chula Vista Sustainability Division at this year’s Lemon Festival on Saturday, August 15, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Downtown Chula Vista, between Park Way and E Street!

Stop by and say hello while you enjoy an afternoon packed with lemon-themed fun, live music, family-friendly activities, contests, food vendors, and a beer & wine garden. 🎶🍋🎉

Hot weather can mean strong odors from your green cart—but these simple tricks can help!

🍃 Keep your cart in the shade to stay cool
🧼 Sprinkle baking soda or add yard waste/shredded paper to absorb moisture
📰 Wrap wet food scraps in newspaper or paper towels
❄️ Bonus Tip: Freeze food waste and toss it in your cart right before collection!

✅ Service Update for Chula Vista Residents!
Regular trash, organics and recycling services have resumed — and we’re also back to offering FREE bulky item pickups for residential customers!

🏠 Single-Family Homes & Cart Service Customers:
You may schedule pickup of up to 10 bulky items per week, or 60 items within a 90-day period — completely free! Additional items may be picked up for a small fee.

📞 Schedule your pickup at least 24 hours in advance by visiting the Republic Services website (link in bio) or calling (619) 421-9400.

🏢 Apartments & Condos:
Property managers or HOA reps can call to schedule FREE bulky item collection. Please contact your complex representative to request service.

♻️ Accepted Bulky Items Include:
• Sofas & chairs
• Mattresses
• Appliances (washers, dryers, refrigerators)
• Lawn furniture
• Scrap metal
• Empty propane tanks
• Grills
• Flocked or artificial holiday trees

For more than two decades, thousands of volunteers have come together to help keep Chula Vista clean, green, and beautiful. Last year alone, more than 500 volunteers removed thousands of pounds of litter, painted out graffiti, and restored neighborhoods, creeks, and canyons throughout our city.

This year, we're excited to introduce new cleanup and beautification projects throughout Chula Vista, creating even more opportunities to make a lasting impact in our community! 🌎✨

Whether you're an individual, family, student, community organization, or business, we invite you to join us for a morning of service, community pride, and environmental stewardship. Together, we can continue building a cleaner, greener, and more beautiful Chula Vista—one project at a time.

⚠️ Keep Chula Vista Safe – Dispose of Batteries Properly! 🔋

Did you know that placing batteries in the trash, recycling, or food waste bins is dangerous and illegal? Batteries can spark fires in collection trucks and at recycling facilities, putting workers and the environment at risk.

✅ Proper Disposal: In California, retailers of rechargeable batteries, including lithium-ion batteries, are required to accept and collect used rechargeable batteries from consumers for recycling or proper disposal, at no cost to the consumer. Visit wastefree.org to find locations near you.

📦⚡ Prime Day Deliveries Arriving? Can I Recycle This? ♻️

Prime Day deals can mean lots of packages at your doorstep! Before you toss all that packaging, make sure you're recycling right.

✅ RECYCLABLE:
• Crinkle paper
• Paper envelopes (plastic windows are okay!)
• Cardboard boxes (no need to remove the tape!)
• Block Styrofoam from packages

❌ NOT Recyclable (Blue Bin):
• Bubble wrap
• Plastic film
• Air pillows
• Padded envelopes lined with bubble wrap

♻️ Packing peanuts?
Reuse them at home or drop them off at a participating shipping or postal store. If that's not an option, place them in the trash.

Every package creates an opportunity to recycle right. Small actions help reduce contamination and keep our recycling system running smoothly. 💙📦✨
