CHULA VISTA — IT’S TIME FOR A FAIR CONTRACT. 🚨🚨

To our families, friends, labor partners, and members of this community who have stood beside our EMTs, Paramedics, and Firefighters — thank you. Your support has been seen, heard, and deeply appreciated.

Now we are asking our Mayor and City Council to act.

Our EMTs and Paramedics serve this community around the clock. They miss sleep, holidays, birthdays, and precious time with their families. They carry the physical and emotional weight of answering thousands of emergency calls every year.

They deserve dignity. They deserve respect. And they deserve a fair contract.

We are asking our Mayor and Council to help bring this to a resolution.

City of Chula Vista — do the right thing.
Respect your workers.
Fair contract NOW.

Stay in the Fight!

FIGHT FOR 42!

Our EMTs and paramedics currently work an average 56-hour week, responding to emergency after emergency—often with interrupted sleep and little time to recover.

Moving to a 42-hour workweek means:

âś… Better-rested EMS professionals making critical decisions
âś… Safer care for every patient
âś… Improved recruitment and retention
âś… Less burnout and fewer experienced workers leaving
âś… More reliable ambulance staffing for our community
âś… A fairer path toward retirement for EMS workers

This isn’t simply about reducing hours—it’s about building an EMS system that can continue serving Chula Vista safely and reliably for years to come.

When we take care of the people who answer our calls for help, they can continue taking care of all of us.

Support our EMS workers. Support safer patient care. FIGHT FOR 42!

This Labor Day, we honor ALL working people whose hard work, sacrifice, and solidarity built our communities.

But today, we especially recognize our EMS workers — EMTs and Paramedics — who have continued serving our community while working without a contract for more than 60 days.

They show up. They answer the call. They care for our families on their worst days.

We remain hopeful that City Hall will do the right thing and honor these dedicated professionals with a contract that reflects what every worker deserves:

Dignity. Respect. Fairness.

On Labor Day — and every day — we stand with working people. ✊🏽

Our CVFD Hand Crew Members perform some of the most demanding and hazardous work in the fire service.

They confront wildfires, extreme heat, rugged terrain, heavy smoke, physical exhaustion, and extended operational periods while protecting our communities.

No one performing dangerous work should be denied fundamental worker rights.

These members deserve dignity, fairness, meaningful protections, and a strong voice in their workplace.

They have earned these rights. It is time to act decisively—stand up for CVFD Hand Crew Members and ensure they receive the protections and respect they deserve without delay.

Union leaders with the Chula Vista Firefighters Local 2180 are pushing to give the city's hand crew members the same workplace protections and benefits as other city firefighters.

"I didn't know what to say or how to react... I started to tear up a little bit," said Elysium Mahnke after firefighters working the Spokane Complex Fires returned to her Olive Garden station with nearly $1,000 in tips for the 21-year-old server who lost her family's home to the fires.

We are honored to stand with Carolina Chavez for City Council. Our members work extremely hard every day to protect lives, safeguard property, and serve this community with pride and professionalism. It matters to have leaders at City Hall who understand the sacrifices first responders and working families make, and who are willing to stand alongside us in the fight for safer neighborhoods and stronger public services.

Carolina Chavez has consistently shown that she listens, leads, and shows up for the people doing the work on the front lines. We’re proud to support someone who values public safety, believes in investing in our communities, and understands the importance of giving firefighters, paramedics, and labor a strong voice at the table.
