Today, CVFD Chief Manroe had the honor of being invited to speak at CVLCC Middle School as students celebrated “Peace One Day.”

It was a meaningful opportunity to connect with students, share a message of service and community, and celebrate the importance of choosing peace, kindness, and understanding.

Firefighters are trained to run toward the difficult moments — but that doesn’t mean those moments don’t stay with us.

The calls we answer, the people we meet, and the experiences we carry can take a toll long after the incident is over. That’s why taking care of our own is an important part of what we do.

At Chula Vista Fire Department, we’re continuing to strengthen our commitment to the mental health and well-being of our members through peer support, wellness resources, education, and open conversations.

Asking for help isn’t a weakness. It’s part of being human — and looking out for one another is part of being a firefighter.

We take care of our community. And we take care of each other. 🚒

🇺🇸 Patriot Day | September 11

Today, we pause to remember September 11, 2001, and the lives forever changed that day.

We honor the 343 FDNY firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice while answering the call to help others, along with the police officers, EMS personnel, military members, and civilians who lost their lives.

For those who wear the uniform, September 11 is a lasting reminder of the courage, selflessness, and commitment to service that define the fire service.

We remember those we lost. We honor those who served. And we will never forget.

CVFD Retired Spotlight: Battalion Chief Jack Rice

We’re proud to introduce another story in our CVFD Retired Spotlight Series—a series dedicated to preserving the memories, experiences, and legacy of the men and women who helped shape the Chula Vista Fire Department.

At 79 years old, Battalion Chief Jack Rice has a lifetime of stories to share. He joined CVFD at just 21 years old, beginning a career that would span decades of service and countless experiences on the fireground.

Today, Chief Rice’s legacy extends well beyond the fire service. He is a father of 6, grandfather of 32, and great-grandfather of 11.

In this video, Chief Rice takes us back through his career and shares memories from his years in the fire service.

We are honored to hear his story, celebrate his service, and preserve the history of those who came before us.

Their stories are our history. Their legacy is our future. 🚒
