Today we reflect on and pay respects to those who lost their lives on this day in 2001, including the 343 firefighters that selflessly answered the call and lost their lives while trying to save others.

Those firefighters represent the best of our profession as they faced daunting circumstances that morning in New York and responded by racing into the burning building while civilians were running out.

🎄🚨 HO HO HO 🚨🎄

We feel incredibly fortunate to work with the Chula Vista Firefighter’s Foundation to bring gifts and holiday cheer to families across the city as part of the “Adopt-A-Family” program, which has been in place for over 20 years.

The is a 501(c)3 organization that, while technically separate from our fire department, is populated by off-duty firefighters along with members of the community and is 100% volunteer. Their fundraising efforts throughout the year support disaster relief, fire and water safety practices, and holiday efforts like you see here.

There is nothing quite like the feeling of giving during the holiday season, and your appreciate an opportunity to put smiles on the faces of the community that we serve.

Today we were notified that retired Fire Chief Phil Landowski passed away this morning at UCSD hospital.

In 1986 the unincorporated area of San Diego County known as Montgomery was officially annexed into the City of Chula Vista through a ballot measure passed by the voters. This annexation included the Montgomery Fire Districted being absorbed by the Chula Vista Fire Department. At this time, the MFD was led by Fire Chief Phil Landowski. At the time of the annexation, Chief Landowski joined the CVFD as a Battalion Chief where he served as a Battalion Chief until his retirement in 1991.

On behalf of the Chula Vista Fire Department, we expressed our condolences to the entire Landowski family. Services are still being planned and additional information will be forthcoming.
