South Bay Fire Department

South Bay Fire Department South Bay operates an Engine, Rescue Pumper, EMS vehicle, Water Rescue Boat, And ATV's on every kind of call you would expect and some you Wouldn't.

South Bay Volunteer Fire Department was established in August of 1955 by a group of concerned citizens who realized that the area needed organized fire protection. With the surrounding community poised for development due to the installation of water, gas, and sewer lines, 35 volunteer firefighters worked nights and weekends to build the first 36’ x 40’ concrete block firehouse literally by hand.

They mortgaged their homes for the construction and the first piece of equipment which was a 1939 Buffalo Pumper/Tanker purchased for $3000

The department was created to serve an area approximately 10 square miles of area located mid-way between Cicero and Bridgeport on the south Shore of Onieda Lake. The early years were a difficult time to be a firefighter. Technology, safe equipment, standardized training, and many other developments hadn’t developed into today’s fire fighting standards yet. The hazards these firefighters faced were astonishing compared to today’s brave men and women. As the department grew, it stayed abreast of the ever changing requirements and standards of the industry. At one point, it was agreed upon that the rapid arrival of trained medical staff would help the ambulance providers save lives. The department trained for and purchased rescue equipment to further augment the service provided to the area. The original fire house was expanded to create a four bay garage measuring 36’ x 80’. On the community front, a Ladies Auxiliary was established to support the department and also to increase the social activities of the community. Later, a banquet hall measuring 60’ x 100’ was added to host hundreds of events organized by the tireless auxiliary. A fully equipped kitchen was built allowing citizens and guests to host wedding receptions, catered gatherings, and a host of other functions. Somewhere along the way, it was decided to become a charter host for the Cub Scouts of America and Pack 32 was created and sponsored. It is now the longest charted Cub Scout pack in the area and still sponsored by the department’s auxiliary.

On Thursday June 4th we had the honor of welcoming USSA (United Special Sportsman Alliance) opening dinner for the families and charter captains.

United Special Sportsman Alliance, Inc. (USSA) is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) non-profit wish-granting charity specializing in sending critically ill and disabled youth and disabled veterans on a free outdoor adventure of their dreams.

USSA adventures give our youth and veterans something to look forward to and help sustain them in their time of need. Providing families with a respite from the mundane, man-made world of hospitals and high medical bills, USSA adventures replace that world with a place of peace, so they have the opportunity to focus on the quality of life, family ties, and the wonders of our natural world.

USSA is composed of a 100% volunteer staff from all walks of life, bonded together by a common love for our fellow man and deep respect and appreciation of our world’s natural resources. Working cooperatively with caring ‘Adventure’ donors as well as generous individual and corporate sponsors, USSA significantly impacts the lives of thousands of children, disabled veterans, and their families. Through these valuable efforts, the image of sportsmen is enhanced in the public eye, and lifelong friendships are made.

Thank you for letting share in this special event.

🇺🇸 Town of Cicero Memorial Day Parade 🇺🇸

The Cicero American Legion will hold the annual Town of Cicero Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 25th with the following schedule:

🇺🇸 Memorial Service: 10:30 AM
🇺🇸 Parade Line Up: 10:45 AM
🇺🇸 Parade Starts: 11:00 AM

The Cicero Fire Department welcomes those attending the parade to park at Station # 1 and watch the parade from there as we gather together as a community to honor and remember our nation’s fallen heroes.

To our elected officials, residents, veterans, first responders, and community members, we hope you can join us as we pause to reflect on the true meaning of Memorial Day, remembering the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country and protecting the freedoms we often take for granted.

In discussions with the Cicero American Legion, we respectfully ask everyone attending to honor the spirit and purpose of the day by leaving all differences aside. Memorial Day is not about politics, division, or personal differences, it is about remembrance, respect, unity, and honoring those who never had the opportunity to come home to their families.

As the flags wave and the parade moves through our community, may we all take a moment to remember the tremendous sacrifices made by generations of American service members. Their courage and selflessness serve as a reminder that freedom is never free.

On behalf of the Cicero American Legion and the Cicero Fire Department, we thank all veterans, active-duty military personnel, and military families for their continued service and sacrifice.

After years of advocacy by FASNY, the NYS Assembly has passed landmark legislation increasing the volunteer firefighter and EMS tax credit from $200 to $800, the first increase since the program was established nearly 20 years ago.

This legislation, S.6233-A (Sen. Martinez) / A.6790-A (MOA McMahon), also removes outdated restrictions that prevented volunteers from receiving both the state income tax credit and locally authorized property tax exemptions, delivering long-overdue support for volunteer emergency responders across New York state.

“This is a transformational moment for volunteer emergency services in New York State,” said FASNY First Vice President, Donald J. Farrell. “Quadrupling the volunteer firefighter and EMS tax credit from $200 to $800 sends a powerful message that New York recognizes the critical role volunteers play in protecting communities every day.”

As volunteer departments statewide continue to face recruitment and retention challenges, the legislation represents one of the most significant investments in volunteer emergency services in decades.

The Senate is expected to advance the measure in the coming days.
