Victor Cazares Jr was murdered on June 01, 2020.

On June 1, Victor Cazares Jr., 27, saw what was unfolding in Cicero and, his loved ones say, wanted to help his community.

Unarmed, a few steps away from his apartment, Victor was shot in front of a corner store he was protecting.

He later died from the gunshot wound to the head.

"I never expected to have news like this in my life," Victor Cazares Sr. shared. "I never thought that I was going to bury one of my children. Parents are supposed to die before their children. Only God knows why he does these things."

Widespread unrest spread throughout Cicero as protestors were forced from downtown Chicago into south and west side neighborhoods.

Sparked by rumors and social media footage of impending break-ins into local businesses, armed Cicero residents patrolled the streets and clashed with what Town officials called 'outside agitators.'

Many community members and surrounding Chicago residents likened these groups to vigilantes who targeted Black people in Cicero.

Victor was shot at the 4900 block of 14th Street at the Super Espiga grocery store, according to records from the Cook County Medical Examiner.

He was transported to Mount Sinai Medical Center in Chicago where he was pronounced dead at 7:31p.

I'm very very disappointed with the Cicero police. Drove around the neighborhood today and seen all the spent fireworks in the middle of intersections and Drexel School field. These residents are so brazen to not hide in their yards to blow off fireworks. And that's because the town does nothing to stop it. My backyard and pool was littered with spent fireworks. I wish we were having neighborhood watch meetings again because I'd surely bring this up!! These people were still lighting fireworks at 430am!! And you're telling me that the police could not stop it???
Not understanding why this state has outlawed fireworks since the law is never enforced. Same people night after night lighting fireworks with no ramifications. 230am, still on 36 st and 53rd ave, people shooting off tons of fireworks. Where are the police????
Every single night someone is shooting off large scale fireworks in the park on 34th and Laramie. Why? Why do we have laws that are never enforced?
I would like to say thank you the CICERO and BERWYN POLICE for showing up to protect us from traffic yesterday during the walk of prayer. Officers were very friendly to us. Thank you for your service and support! God bless you!
❤Thank you to cicero and berwyn police. you did an amazing job of handling the looters.. helping with the peaceful protest, and kept our streets safe. ❤
This is getting out of hand .
So is it the habit of cpd to allow gang members to Target random black people driving past in the area.... That won't play out well..o also you guys are with it and if turning a blind eye..... Your and be ashamed of yourself
I'm curious to know, why is the Cicero police department letting Mexicans jump on and sn**ch black peoples out of their cars. The police are actually driving past witnessing this. This how the city of Cicero rolls huh? I wish I could upload this guy live video.
Thank you for everything you're doing! Great job today!
Thank you Cicero Police Officers for protecting our town and our community 🙏
If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated. Anything can help a great deal.
