We are asking you to be aware of your surroundings, park your cars inside garages whenever possible and/or utilize anti-theft measures such as steering wheel locks.

If you see something suspicious contact the police department immediately. Thank You!

**ALERTA COMUNITARIA**

Gracias!

Tendencia de Tik-Tok de Robo de Autos

2010 – 2021 KIA / HYUNDAI (varios modelos)

En los últimos meses, hemos visto un aumento significativo en robos de auto, particularmente autos de KIA y HYUNDAI.

El reto actual de las redes sociales de Tik-Tok es un factor significante por el aumento en robos de autos. Este reto da paso a paso instrucciones de como robar los vehículos de KIA y HYUNDAI hechos entre 2010 y 2021, que no están equipados con un inmovilizador de encendido. Por lo tanto, estos encendidos de vehículos pueden ser manipulados usando un cable de USB. Estos tipos de crímenes ocurren muy rápido y pueden afectar a cualquier miembro de la comunidad. Si, usted es dueño de un KIA o HYUNDAI, usted puede ser una víctima, por lo que los animamos a que estén alertos y utilicen los siguientes consejos para protegerse a sí mismo y a su vehículo;

COMMUNITY ALERT

TIK-TOK AUTO THEFT TREND

2010 – 2021 KIA / HYUNDAI (VARIOUS MAKE AND MODELS)

Over the past few months, we have seen a significant increase in motor vehicles thefts, particularly KIA and Hyundai vehicles.

The current Tik-Tok Kia/Hyundai social media challenge is a significant factor for the increase in vehicle thefts. This challenge is a play by play on how to steal both Kia and Hyundai vehicles produced between 2010 through 2021 which are not equipped with an ignition immobilizer. Therefore, these vehicle ignitions can be compromised using a USB cable. These types of crimes happen very quickly and can affect just about any member of the community. If you own a Kia or Hyundai, you are a potential target, so we encourage you to be alert and utilize the following tips to protect yourself and your vehicle;

TIPS TO MINIMIZE THEFTS
· Install steering wheel locking device.
· Install a battery disconnect switch.
· Install a kill switch (may require professional installation).
· Install an aftermarket anti-theft system (may require professional installation).
· Lock all windows and doors.
· Park in a well-lit area.
· Park in a secure location (i.e, garage, parking structure, etc.).
· Install GPS tracking device.
· If shopping, makings deliveries, or pumping gas, always remove the key from the ignition and don’t leave your car running, even for a brief moment.
· Keep valuables or anything having an appearance of value out of sight.

If you observe a theft in progress, please DO NOT confront the thieves. Your life is more valuable than you valuables. Immediately call 911 to report the crime in progress or report a theft.

Catalytic converters are present in vehicle exhaust systems. Precious metals are used in the devices, which make them appealing to thieves. The thefts can be done in minutes and will leave vehicle owners with a costly repair bill. There are a few ways to help prevent catalytic converter thefts. Always park in a garage or well-lit area when possible. If you park in a personal garage, keep the overhead door closed and lock any service doors. If you hear what sounds like an electric saw noise, especially at night, call us immediately. If you have a vehicle that is high up from the ground, consider having a mechanic install a security device that makes the converter harder to steal. School has been back in session and we continue to observe and enforce violations in school zones. Please follow these important safety tips;

• School Zones: The speed limit in all school zones, on school days when children are present, is 20 m.p.h.

• Cellular phone use in school zones is prohibited by State law, except in emergencies (i.e. calling 9-1-1 for police, fire, or ambulance emergency assistance).

• Texting while driving is prohibited at all times throughout the State. Effective January 1, 2014, this law prohibits the use of all electronic devices while driving (unless in a voice-activated or hands-free mode).

• Stopping for loading and unloading school buses: Illinois law requires that drivers stop and not pass school buses that have their red lights flashing with the stop arm extended. Vehicles that are in oncoming traffic to a loading or unloading school bus on a four lane roadway, are not required to stop.

• Disobeying a crossing guard: Illinois law makes disobeying a crossing guard a petty offense that requires a court appearance by the offender.

• Slow Down!

Please help us keep our children safe this school year!

This Thanksgiving holiday - Drive Sober, or get Pulled Over.
I'm very very disappointed with the Cicero police. Drove around the neighborhood today and seen all the spent fireworks in the middle of intersections and Drexel School field. These residents are so brazen to not hide in their yards to blow off fireworks. And that's because the town does nothing to stop it. My backyard and pool was littered with spent fireworks. I wish we were having neighborhood watch meetings again because I'd surely bring this up!! These people were still lighting fireworks at 430am!! And you're telling me that the police could not stop it???
Not understanding why this state has outlawed fireworks since the law is never enforced. Same people night after night lighting fireworks with no ramifications. 230am, still on 36 st and 53rd ave, people shooting off tons of fireworks. Where are the police????
Every single night someone is shooting off large scale fireworks in the park on 34th and Laramie. Why? Why do we have laws that are never enforced?
