Congratulations Commander Matt Ramirez on receiving the Patriotic Employer Award from the Illinois ESGR! Job well done!

Illinois Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Vice Chair Michael Holub presented a Patriotic Employer award to Police Commander Matthew Ramirez of the Cicero Police Department. The presentation took place during October 26th meeting of the Cicero Town Board. Commander Ramirez was nominated for the recognition by Staff Sergeant (SSG) Luis Martinez of the Illinois National Guard (Army).
Martinez told ESGR Commander Ramirez fully supports his military obligations, whether it is a deployment, annual training or weekend drill. Commander Ramirez, Martinez said, makes it easy for service members to fulfill their responsibilities. SSG Martinez was unable to attend the presentation; he is currently deployed with the 1744th Transportation Company.

Prevent Carjackings

We have seen an increase in Carjacking from Roosevelt Road(North) to 18th Street (South) and 61st Court (West) to Central Ave (East).

Avoid being a carjacking target with these additional precautions:

•Don't double park!
•Don’t sit in your car with the door unlocked or the windows rolled down!
•Avoid being alone in your vehicle in certain areas, such as isolated roads and intersections or desolate areas of parking lots.
•Be aware of your surroundings. Pay special attention to people who seem to be lurking or cars that suspiciously follow you. Call 911 and use your key fob or other car alarm if you feel a threat.
•Be wary of how carjackers lure victims. These include bumping your car, pretending to be stranded motorists or flashing their lights as if there were something wrong with your car. In each of these scenarios, you might be tempted to pull over—only to have your car taken. Stay inside with the windows shut and the door locked and, if you feel a threat, drive to the nearest police or fire station.
•Practice safe parking. Stick to well-lit areas.
•Don’t stop at isolated ATMs, which might put you and your bank accounts as well as your car in danger.
•Always have your mobile phone handy and charged.

This Thanksgiving holiday - Drive Sober, or get Pulled Over.
I'm very very disappointed with the Cicero police. Drove around the neighborhood today and seen all the spent fireworks in the middle of intersections and Drexel School field. These residents are so brazen to not hide in their yards to blow off fireworks. And that's because the town does nothing to stop it. My backyard and pool was littered with spent fireworks. I wish we were having neighborhood watch meetings again because I'd surely bring this up!! These people were still lighting fireworks at 430am!! And you're telling me that the police could not stop it???
Not understanding why this state has outlawed fireworks since the law is never enforced. Same people night after night lighting fireworks with no ramifications. 230am, still on 36 st and 53rd ave, people shooting off tons of fireworks. Where are the police????
Every single night someone is shooting off large scale fireworks in the park on 34th and Laramie. Why? Why do we have laws that are never enforced?
