Slight Risk of Severe Storms this Evening

Here is this mornings updated severe weather risk for southwest Kansas over the next few days. Strong to severe thunderstorms are expected to move across western Kansas tonight and again Thursday night. A few of the strongest storms both nights will be capable of producing strong gusty winds and heavy rainfall.

We have warming temperatures the next several days. Please stay hydrated and take breaks in the shade. Fire Danger will also be increasing with elevated temperatures and reduced humidity. Stay safe and cool.

A gradual warming trend will occur across southwest Kansas through the first half of the work week, with highs in the upper 90s to lower 100s possible by Wednesday afternoon. If you have outdoor plans mid week, protect yourself from the heat by drinking plenty of water and taking frequent breaks in the shade.

Another round of strong to severe thunderstorms is expected Wednesday, in very similar fashion to what was observed Tuesday. Storms will again progress northeast, with coverage highest across the northwest zones. Wind gusts of 50-70 mph will be the primary risk. If outdoors, have multiple ways to receive warnings, and be ready to take shelter as storms approach.

Stay weather aware, stay safe, and look out for changing weather conditions.

Thunderstorms are expected to begin near the Colorado/Kansas border 4-7 pm Tuesday, then advance eastward, organizing into linear clusters as they advance into western Kansas Tuesday evening. Wind gusts of 60-80 mph are the primary risk, mainly west of US 283 before midnight.
