On Friday, August 14 at approximately 14:59, Cimarron Volunteer Fire Department and Philmont Fire Department responded to the area of Miami Lane and Horseshoe near CS Ranch Headquarters for reports of a lightning-caused fire with smoke and flames visible.

Although the grass fire quickly spread to approximately 40 acres, it was 100% contained by that evening.

On Wednesday, August 5 at approximately 13:29, Cimarron Volunteer Fire Department, Ute Park Fire Department, New Mexico Forestry Division, and Philmont Fire Department responded to reports of smoke northwest of Ute Park in the Colin Neblett State Wildlife Area.

Thanks to a swift response from all agencies, the Maverick Creek Fire was quickly 100% contained at approximately one acre.

Cimarron Volunteer Fire Department joined departments from across New Mexico in fighting the Rayado Mesa Fire burning south of NM Highway 21 near Miami.

Initially reported on Monday, July 27, the fire quickly spread to over 900 acres and was reported to be approximately 91% contained as of August 1.

Special thanks to the support of all emergency services from Colfax County and beyond who continue to work to protect our Cimarron-area communities.

On Saturday, July 25 at approximately 12:46pm, Cimarron Volunteer Fire Department and Philmont Fire Department received a call for assistance from the Miami Fire Department in response to a reported fire with smoke and flames visible on the UU Bar Ranch near Sweetwater (Game and Fish Road 199 and NM Highway 21).

Lightning was determined to have started the fire. However, thanks to a quick and effective initial response, the Sweetwater Fire was contained at less than an acre and fully extinguished.

On Wednesday, July 22 at approximately 6:07pm, Cimarron Volunteer Fire Department and Philmont Fire Department received reports of smoke visible north of Cimarron on Chase Ranch property.

The Templeton Canyon Fire was successfully contained at approximately 5 acres and is no longer active as of July 27.

UPDATE 7/27: PLEASE NOTE THIS MEETING HAS BEEN CANCELLED AS CVFD PERSONNEL ARE RESPONDING TO AN ACTIVE FIRE INCIDENT. THE NEXT BUSINESS MEETING WILL BE AUGUST 31.

The Cimarron Volunteer Fire Department will hold its July business meeting on Monday, July 27 at 1800 hours (6:00pm) at the CVFD station house (413 E 8th Street, Cimarron, NM 87714).

⚠️ Fire Reported in Chase Ranch Area ⚠️

Cimarron Volunteer Fire Department, Philmont Fire Department, and New Mexico Forestry Division are aware of reports of a fire burning in the Chase Ranch area north of Cimarron. Smoke may be visible from town this evening.

At this time, crews from all three agencies are responding to the incident. There is no need for alarm or to make further reports to 911. Additional updates will be posted here as they become available.

On Tuesday, July 7, Cimarron Volunteer Fire Department responded to two fire incidents in the greater Cimarron area.

CVFD was initially dispatched to assist Philmont Fire Department with a report of a single tree snag fire soldering with smoke but no flames visible near Vaca Camp on Philmont Scout Ranch property.

Shortly thereafter, at approximately 17:30 hours, CVFD was dispatched to the area of US Highway 64 and Forest Road 1950 in response to reports of heavy black smoke visible, possibly coming from the Valle Vidal.

CVFD personnel joined crews from Vermejo Fire Department, New Mexico Forestry Division, and Philmont Fire Department on what became known as the Plaza Canyon Fire. Thanks to a timely and efficient response from all departments, the fire was fully contained at approximately 8 acres.

Thank you to all crews and departments involved for their work and assistance on these incidents!
