🎉 A sneak peek at LADD’s DSP Appreciation Week preparations! 💙
LADD is so excited to celebrate our incredible Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) — the heart of what we do! Their compassion, dedication, and commitment make a difference every day as they support our individuals in building skills, pursuing goals, and living full, meaningful lives in their communities.

A huge THANK YOU to our amazing DSPs and to our wonderful volunteers who are helping make this celebration possible! 🙌💙

Important conversations, big goals, and lots of hope! 💙

LADD was thrilled to participate in the second meeting of Ohio’s new Developmental Disabilities (DD) Caucus on August 24, connecting with advocates and leaders to talk about the challenges—and opportunities—facing Ohio’s DD system.

We heard from the Ohio DD Council and received an update on the new interRAI assessment process. Dynamic speaker, Marci Straughter talked about her thoughts on Medicaid waivers and caucus leaders shared their goal of diving deeper into how we can work smarter, better, faster and bigger together to support people with disabilities, their families and the professionals who support them.

Representative Mike Odioso shared, “We’re moving forward with hope.” And LADD couldn’t agree more! 🙌
We are proud to be part of the conversation—and ready to keep moving things forward!

And that’s a wrap on Disability Pride Month 2026 🧡

💛 As Disability Pride Month comes to a close, we want to take a moment to celebrate Sydney Gibson.

At the beginning of this month, Sydney stood at the Disability Pride flag raising and spoke beautifully about her journey.

This month is a reminder to everyone that disability is a natural part of the human experience, and that every person carries immeasurable ability and value. Here at LADD we celebrate this truth all year long. Here’s to Sydney, to our community, and to carrying this pride well beyond the month.🎉

🎙️ Today we mark a milestone worth celebrating, the 36th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Signed into law on July 26, 1990, the ADA was a turning point in the fight for disability rights, and a promise that people with disabilities deserve equal opportunity, dignity, and full participation in community life.

In honor of this day, we invite you to listen to a very special episode of Never Fade Away. Host Kate Siahaan-Rigg sits down with two of the most pivotal leaders in LADD’s history, former Executive Director David Robinson and former CEO Susan Brownknight, to reflect on five decades of change in disability services. From institutional care and segregated programs to a future built on community, independence, dignity, and technology. This conversation is a powerful reminder of how far we’ve come and how much further we must go.

July is Disability Pride Month, a time to celebrate disability as a natural part of the human experience and to recommit ourselves to building communities where everyone truly belongs.

At LADD, disability inclusion isn't about lowering expectations or simply raising awareness. It's about ensuring people with disabilities have the same opportunities to choose where they live, where they work, how they contribute, and how they show up in their communities. That takes thoughtful policy, strong partnerships, and organizations willing to challenge the status quo.

LADD's CEO Susan Brownknight recently joined WLWT's Sheree Paolello alongside advocate Annie Callan to talk about why Disability Pride Month matters and what real inclusion looks like, not just in July, but every single day.

We are grateful to the people we support, our incredible team, our community partners, and everyone working toward a more inclusive Ohio. 💛

Some big news to share with our LADD family. 🧡

After 15 years of transformational leadership, our CEO Susan Brownknight has been named Statewide CEO of Signal Ohio, a nonprofit media organization dedicated to empowering communities and strengthening democracy.

Susan leaves an extraordinary legacy. Under her leadership, LADD celebrated its 50th anniversary and became a national model for innovation, inclusion, and housing for people with developmental disabilities. Our Smart Living technology was honored at the United Nations and is being adopted across the country, with 16 new smart homes online or on the way. Senior living opened at Victory Parkway so the people we support can age with dignity. She co-founded the OTR International Film Festival, helped bring Disability Pride Month celebrations to our city and county, created the Empowerment Committee to bring the voices of the people we support to the highest levels of decision-making, and helped build “The LADD Way”, the playbook for how we live our values every day.

We’re also grateful to announce that Neil Tilow, who led Talbert House for 41 years, will serve as our Interim CEO.

Susan, your legacy lives in every life changed, every home built, and every person whose value the world now sees and celebrates. Thank you and congratulations! 👏 🎉
