This week Springfield Township said goodbye to local institution 𝗗𝗲𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗠𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗮𝘆 at the remarkable age of 96.

Residents may remember Denver as the gentleman who sat in his wheelchair at the corner of 𝗟𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗟𝗮𝗻𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗶𝗹𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗵𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗲, warmly waving at every car that passed by. It was truly beautiful to see how a gesture so simple could lift an entire community. Denver found immense joy in bringing smiles to people's faces, and he cherished every return wave and smile he received.

Denver was a proud Korean War veteran who moved to Springfield Township from rural Kentucky to live with his daughter's family after his wife passed away and his health began to decline. He quickly embraced suburban life and truly loved connecting with people. His eyes lit up as he spoke about his time serving his country. Beyond his proud military service, Denver was a man who loved the outdoors and was an avid sportsman.

Above all, Denver taught us a profound lesson in hospitality: that a simple wave and a genuine smile can spark endless joy. He reminded us all that small, everyday acts of kindness often leave the deepest impact on our hearts.

How is a road resurfacing project funded? Take this year’s project on Springdew Dr (pictured) and Butterfly Ct for example!

The entire project cost $989,900.00. 50% of the project was funded by grant dollars from the Ohio Public Works Commission. 46.5% was funded by Springfield Township’s general fund. The final 3.5% of the funding comes from property assessments for the residents of the newly resurfaced streets.

Springfield Township leverages grant dollars to stretch our ability to resurface our roads and improve our infrastructure.

This year, Springfield Township, with Adleta Construction, resurfaced Kirkland Drive, Burgundy Lane, and Colette Ln. 50% of the funding for this project came from grant funds, while the rest was funded by the Township's General Fund (46.5%) and property assessments (3.5%).

We are so excited to be able to leverage grant dollars to stretch our ability to improve our infrastructure for our residents.

Charley Harper, who spent much of his life living and painting in Springfield Township, will be widely celebrated across Greater Cincinnati this October. Harper’s works will be shown as light installations, original paintings, and immersive experiences.

During the Blink Cincinnati festival, The Mercantile Immersive at 115 E 5th Street is hosting “Harper Alive.” This experience includes works from Harper’s wife Edie, and includes an original music score to accompany the artwork.

The Cincinnati Art Museum is displaying “The Art of Charley Harper: Creatures Wild and Tame” from October 16 to March 7. CAM reports that the exhibit shows “more than 140 of the artist’s drawings, gouaches, collages, screen prints, paintings, and posters”.

One day later, the Taft Art Museum will begin displaying “Edie McKee Harper: Modernist at Play.” Edie’s work will be on display until January 24.

Brett Harper, son of Charley and Edie, also has his work on display in the Springfield Township Administration Building until December 1.

This renaissance of Harper’s work is an exciting time to celebrate an artist who called Springfield Township home. ArtsConnect Springfield Township’s Harper Room displays Charley Harper’s art 365 day a year.
