The Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden is using the power of the sun to make a difference for people and wildlife. Through its Community Solar Resiliency Program, the Zoo reinvests revenue generated by its own solar arrays to provide solar panels and sustainability expertise to nonprofits, schools, houses of worship, and conservation partners. Since the program began, the Zoo has helped facilitate nine solar installations totaling more than 222 kW of renewable energy, with even more projects on the way.
The program's impact reaches beyond Greater Cincinnati, too. Zoo staff are sharing solar expertise with conservation partner SORALO in Kenya, where 40 wildlife rangers now have dependable power at six ranger stations to support their important coexistence work. ROAD CLOSURE UPDATE! – Due to weather-related impacts, the planned closure of one lane of Newtown Road, between Clough Pike and Mercer's Pointe Drive, has been postponed until Tuesday, Sept. 8 (after Labor Day weekend).

One-Way Newtown Road Closure Starts Sept. 8

Starting Tuesday, Sept. 8, southbound Newtown Road will be closed between Mercers Point Drive and the junction with Clough Pike for up to 60 days.

A detour will be provided by way of Clough Pike and Bartels Road. Newtown Road heading northbound, or up the hill turning off Clough Pike, will remain open.

The road work is part of the Clough Pike and Newtown Road intersection improvement project which includes the addition of left turn lanes on Clough and Newtown Road, as well as a sidewalk on the south side of Clough Pike, between Copperleaf Lane and Newtown Road. Traffic will be maintained by flaggers.
