Shannon Leanza () has been making things for as long as she can remember. As a child, if you gave her crayons, markers, paint, or anything else she could create with, she was happy. She has always loved the feeling of starting with something simple and turning it into something that didnโt exist before.
Years later, Shannon found her way to clay. She took classes in wheel throwing and hand building and was hooked almost immediately. There is something special to her about taking a plain lump of clay and, with her hands, turning it into something useful, beautiful, and completely her own.
What Shannon loves most is the entire journey. She enjoys working the clay, shaping it, adding the details, painting and glazing it, and then placing it in the kiln and waiting to see what happens. There is always a little bit of mystery in that final step. When she opens the kiln and sees the finished pieces, she still gets the same feeling she had as a child on Christmas morningโexcitement, anticipation, and the joy of discovering something new.
Over time, pottery has become much more than a hobby for Shannon. It has become a huge part of who she is and one of the ways she expresses herself and connects with other people. Every piece she makes carries a little bit of her time, imagination, and heart.
Shannon feels incredibly fortunate to have discovered something that brings her so much happiness. Her hope is to keep learning, creating, and making things that bring a little bit of that same joy to the people who take them home.
After all, you never really know what a simple lump of clay might becomeโsometimes, it becomes something pretty wonderful.
