We are saddened to announce the passing of our former long time office secretary, Leslie Knapp. Lt Mike Nie (ret) said it best, remarking "Leslie was like a bonus mom or grandma. When we would stop by with our kids, she was the nice lady who gave them candy and talked to them." She was that, and so much more, starting as a volunteer firefighter / EMT in the 1970's, and working here in the office well into her 80's before retiring in 2017.

Services are this Friday, September 11, 2026 at Our Lady of the Visitation Church on South Rd. The layout is at 08:30 followed by Mass at 10:00.

Godspeed, Leslie. We are better because you were in our lives. We'll see you later, Love!

At a recent CERT meeting, we ackowledged Betty Lee for 18 years of volunteer service to Green Township. Betty is hanging it up, and can be seen standing next to retired CERT leader, Mike Scherer (blue shirt). Thank you, Betty! And thank you to Mike Scherer for your efforts in training up our civilians.

Our Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is currently accepting new members. CERT members are called into action in the event of a major emergency, such as a tornado or other mass casualty event to assist emergency responders with logistical needs. They are trained in CPR, first aid / triage, and how to function within NIMS (National Incident Management System). They can also be seen at community events such as Open Houses, dishing out hot dogs, chili, and refreshments!

Drills are held quarterly on Tuesday evenings. If you're a Green Township resident and would like to join our CERT, please email Firefighter Griffin Kain, [email protected].

Crews have responded to over 50 storm-related details today. Several residents are without power, and some have experienced major damage to their homes from trees falling. In the event you have an emergency, the best practice is to call 911 and the dispatchers will notify the respective jurisdiction. We have called in extra help to try to process all dispatches as quick as possible. Some details, such as power lines down, will possibly result in a longer response, while details such as trees on houses become the priority. Additionally, some roads are impassable due to multiple trees or power lines down. Thanks for your patience, and check on your neighbors if you can.

Please join us in congratulating Firefighter Nick Gemmell on his 27 years of service to the residents and visitors of Green Township. Nick's service began well before his 1999 swearing in, as he served as one of the department's first Fire Explorers when the post was established in 1993. Nick will continue his full-time role as a firefighter in our neighboring Miami Township. Thank you, Nick!
