Today’s water rescue was a powerful reminder of why we train the way we do.

A truck had driven into a pond with a patient trapped inside, creating a dangerous and time-critical situation. Thanks to the quick response, teamwork, and dedication of everyone involved, the patient was successfully extricated and transported by Life Flight.

We want to extend a huge thank you to Centerville Fire Department, Centerville Fire Rescue, and Appanoose County Sheriff Department for their assistance and professionalism on scene.

This call is a perfect example of why extra training matters. When seconds count, preparation and teamwork make all the difference.

Stay safe, everyone.

Our near-record temperatures on Saturday will be paired with very dry conditions and winds out of the west to southwest around 10-15 mph, with gusts to 20-25 mph. This will create elevated fire weather conditions in most places with near-critical fire weather conditions in southwest Iowa. Burning is not recommended!

I didn't get many photos because we were so busy. We owe so many departments a huge thank you for the assistance today! Cincinnati Fire Department was requested for a controlled burn that had reignited and gotten out of control. Heavy smoke was visible long before arrival. Cincinnati requested Centerville Fire Department before arriving on scene. Upon Cincinnati's arrival, they found a large fire spreading fast and covering a large distance already. Moulton Fire was then requested. Access to the fire proved difficult as it spanned many acres through timber and crossed many draws and creeks. Mystic, Moravia, and Unionville departments were then also called. Crews worked hard to get ahead of the fire. We were also assisted by Southern Appanoose County First Responders and Centerville Fire Rescue. We are working on getting a more accurate estimation of acres burned, but at this time, it's ranging from 200 to 400. We can't thank our fellow departments enough; this dangerous fire would have only continued to escalate. Everyone did an amazing job tonight!
