Tomorrow at Wanda Way Homes, we’re continuing Week 5 of our Financial Literacy Series in partnership with First Commonwealth Bank! 🏦💗

This week’s topic is FRAUD PREVENTION 🛡️💳. Our residents will learn how to recognize scams, protect their personal and financial information, and make smarter decisions to safeguard their money and their future.

🏡 Exciting News for Wanda Way Homes! 💗

We are incredibly grateful to announce that Wanda Way Homes, a program of Empower GENNOW Network (Generation NOW), has received $106,071.17 in FY2027 funding through the City of Cincinnati Human Services Fund! 🎉

This continued and expanded investment means so much to our organization and, most importantly, to the individuals we serve.

At Wanda Way Homes, our mission is rooted in three simple but powerful words: Healing. Housing. Hope. Every day, we work to provide safe and supportive recovery housing while helping individuals rebuild their lives, strengthen their stability, and move toward independence.

We are deeply grateful to the City of Cincinnati, Cincinnati City Council, and United Way for continuing to believe in this work and investing in housing services that strengthen our community.

$106,071.17 is more than funding—it represents more opportunities to provide housing, support, stability, and hope. 🏠💕

💜 WANDA WAY HOMES — OVERDOSE AWARENESS EVENT 💜

Hey Wanda Way Homes family! 🏡💗

Tomorrow, Friday, August 28, 2026, we’ll be traveling down to Washington Park from 3:00 PM–6:00 PM to participate in the Overdose Awareness Event.

We’ll be taking our 11-passenger van, so if you would like to ride with us and join in on the activities, please reach out to Tarik to reserve your spot. 🚐

This is an opportunity to come together with the recovery community, learn about overdose prevention, connect with resources, and show support for those whose lives have been impacted by addiction and overdose. Participation can also count as a recovery meeting.

📅 September 29 & 30 and October 1, 2026
⏰ 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM each evening

Orientation is required before beginning GED classes and will help you understand the program, meet the staff, set your goals, learn about available support, and complete your placement testing.

🌱💗 BIG NEWS FROM WANDA WAY HOMES! 💗🌱

We are incredibly honored and excited to announce that Wanda Way Homes has been awarded a $1,500 Healthy Choices Project Mini Grant from Case Western Reserve University to support our Wanda Way Homes Community Garden! 🎉

This grant is more than funding—it is an investment in healing, wellness, and hope.

Our community garden will provide residents in recovery with opportunities to:
🌿 Learn healthy eating habits
🥕 Grow fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs
💚 Build life skills and responsibility
🌻 Experience the therapeutic benefits of gardening
🤝 Strengthen community while working toward long-term recovery

📚 Another Door Opens. Another Purpose Confirmed. 💚❤️

Renika J. Smiley is excited to announce her acceptance into the Chemical Dependency Counselor Assistant (CDCA) Certificate I Program at Cincinnati State! 🎉

This acceptance comes in addition to her recent acceptance into the Substance Abuse Counseling Certificate Program at the University of Cincinnati.

Many people have asked why she chose to pursue both programs.

The answer is simple: Renika is committed to obtaining the highest level of education and professional training possible to better serve the individuals and families who place their trust in Wanda Way Homes during their recovery journey.

For Renika, education has never been about collecting degrees—it has always been about becoming the most knowledgeable, effective, and compassionate leader she can be for her community.

Educational Journey

✔️ Bachelor's Degree in Organizational Leadership – University of Cincinnati
✔️ Master's Degree in Human Resource Management – University of Cincinnati
🎓 Accepted into the University of Cincinnati's Substance Abuse Counseling Certificate Program
🎓 Accepted into Cincinnati State's Chemical Dependency Counselor Assistant (CDCA) Certificate I Program

Upon completing the Cincinnati State program this fall, Renika will officially earn her Chemical Dependency Counselor Assistant (CDCA) credential. She will then continue working toward her long-term goal of earning a Bachelor's Degree in Substance Abuse Counseling, followed by becoming a licensed behavioral health professional.

Every class, certification, and credential is an investment that will be poured directly back into Wanda Way Homes—strengthening the recovery housing program, enhancing services for residents, and continuing to build an organization rooted in excellence, compassion, accountability, and hope.

Renika believes that if people are trusting her and her team during one of the most important seasons of their lives, she has a responsibility to continue learning, growing, and leading by example.

She is grateful to everyone who has supported and encouraged her throughout this journey. This milestone is about more than personal achievement—it is about expanding access to quality recovery services, transforming lives, and honoring the legacy of her mother through Wanda Way Homes: Healing.
