This week, members of our Executive and Program Management teams are at the National Network of Fiscal Sponsors (NNFS) National Gathering, and it's been a great few days of learning and connecting with others in the fiscal sponsorship community! 🌟

A highlight so far: spending time with Greg Colvin, one of the founding architects of fiscal sponsorship law and the models the field still relies on today.

Our team also presented a session on how Heluna Health's Program Management Department evolved from a generalist model to a dedicated role structure — and how that shift has strengthened our expertise, compliance practices, and support for the projects we sponsor.

When a local firefighter came across an unhoused mother and her six-month-old baby, she knew exactly who to call. 📞

Sara Jimenez, an Outreach Specialist at PHFE WIC Program (Official) (a program of Heluna Health), has spent years building relationships with hospitals, schools, organizations, and first responders across her community — so when a family needs help, there's already a bridge in place.

"When I picked up the phone, I thought, I'm so glad she remembered me," Jimenez recalls.

Sara and the team jumped into action, and within hours, a mother who'd lost touch with WIC was reconnected with the support she and her baby needed. 💛

Last month, our program team headed to New Orleans for a site visit with our partner MOMentum Park and their SHERO initiative to showcase this incredible work to our federal funding partners!

The visit included a formal presentation, a tour of LSU Medical School, time with the SHERO NOLA advisory board, and (of course) a stop for snowballs, a true NOLA tradition. But the highlight? Breakfast with SHERO moms and their babies — a chance to connect directly with the families this work is all for.

SHERO (Shaping Healthy Equitable Reproductive Outcomes) is a tech-enabled, human-led sisterhood supporting moms through pregnancy and safely into parenthood. In a country where Black women and babies face the highest maternal and infant mortality rates, Momentum Park and SHERO are building something different: rooted in community, powered by technology, led by love.

We're proud to support this mission and partner with Momentum Park to make safe, equitable maternal care a reality for more families. Our funding partners and program team left inspired.

"The more successful our work is, the less you know about us."

That's how Dr. Sharon Messenger describes the work of her team at the the Zoonotic & Vector-Borne Diseases Section (ZVBD).

The lab's researchers build and validate the diagnostic tools that catch dangerous diseases — West Nile virus, hantavirus, rabies — before they spread.

When an unfamiliar virus turned up with no validated U.S. test available, this small team built one in record time. It's the kind of work that rarely makes headlines, precisely because it works.

Heluna Health has proudly supported ZVBD for 50 years, helping manage the grants and staffing that keep this research running.

When they are supported and do their jobs well, communities are healthier, outbreaks are caught earlier, risks are reduced, and families get the support they need. This Labor Day, we're honoring the public health workforce doing that quiet, essential work:

→ Outreach workers meeting people where they are, one conversation at a time
→ Nutritionists turning science into everyday care for families
→ Surveillance teams tracking outbreaks before they become emergencies
→ Coordinators connecting the dots so no one falls through the cracks

This is the infrastructure of care — and Heluna Health is proud to be part of it, supporting the organizations and initiatives that keep public health running.

Last Friday was a beautiful one at CinnaMoms Crenshaw! 💜

They celebrated Black Breastfeeding Week with families in the community — breastfeeding support, health screenings, an art activity, good food, and awards honoring incredible moms.

CinnaMoms is a non-traditional WIC space, designed with Black and African American moms, parents, and grandparents in mind, offering culturally relevant support and a place to rest, nest, and connect.

Heluna Health is proud to highlight the beautiful community CinnaMoms has cultivated. 🍼✨

We were excited to welcome Representative Laura Friedman to our Van Ness PHFE WIC Program (Official) office earlier this month!

During her visit, she got to see firsthand the important work our WIC teams do every day — from nutrition education and breastfeeding support to connecting families with resources that help them thrive. WIC plays a vital role for families across our community, and we're grateful for the chance to share that work with her.

It's National Breastfeeding Month, and we want you to meet two of the people making sure parents don't have to navigate this journey alone. 🍼

Danielle and Janelle, PHFE WIC staff members, who are sharing more about the breastfeeding support available to families — access to International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs), electric breast pump loans, a breastfeeding helpline, prenatal and postpartum support, and peer counselors who've been there themselves.

PHFE WIC Program (Official), a program of Heluna Health, supports more than 200,000 women, children, and families across Los Angeles, Orange, and San Bernardino Counties, all at no cost. And within PHFE WIC, CinnaMoms offers a culturally grounded space for Black families/African American to connect and get support.
