There is a closed door in the Chilton County Courthouse with a bright pink sign that reads, “We R Volunteers for the DAVCSO #33 Representatives Call 280-4685for Appointment We monitor our phone Daily.” In 2012 Chilton County’s Veteran’s Affairs Office was one of 17 throughout the State to close its doors. Only 50 out of 67 counties have a County VA office to date. Chilton County’s current 3,144 ve
terans are without access to a local Veteran’s Affairs office. The nearest offices are in Autauga, Bibb, Dallas, and Shelby Counties. The charge of the County VA office is to be a central point of contact to inform veterans, their dependents, and survivors of all federal, state, and local laws enacted for their benefit. All 400,000 Alabama veterans are entitled to an expert liaison. Without the assistance of the County VA, Chilton County veterans do not have access to an agency that is dedicated to expertly administering current veteran programs, anticipating future needs and taking actions to meet those needs. Camo Foundation is currently a limited liability company and has applied for 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization/charity status. Camo Foundation is dedicated to public awareness, education of resources, benefits, and services granted to military members, their family members, and survivors. The Camo Foundation locates and identifies resources that are needed on an individual basis. Camo Foundation has already assisted several Chilton County veterans. As of January 2014, there are 9,612 veterans with a diagnosis of PTSD using VA facilities located in the State of Alabama. Future goals of Camo Foundation include working to implement a Veterans Court in Chilton County to address legal problems associated with PTSD.
