UPDATE: Traffic has been released

TRAFFIC DELAY:
This morning at approximately 8 AM, A contractor digging in the area of 7th Street North and Blacksnake Road struck a gas line causing a leak. Alagasco crews are on the scene making repairs but for safety reasons, the area is closed to traffic until it is determined safe. CPD, CFD, CCSO and ALDOT are on the scene assisting with the incident. We are unsure how long the road will be closed at this time.

CPD needs help in identifying this subject. He stole a large amount of produce from Pierce Farms produce stand located on 7th Street South. According to the owners, this is the second time this subject has stole from the business that they are aware of. CPD needs help identifying this vehicle that was used to steal a truck at a local Hotel. The incident occurred between 2 AM and 5 AM this morning. SUSPECT LOCATED:
The suspect in a series of thefts and identity thefts in our area has been apprehended and is in custody. The suspect has been identified as Jacqueline Defau. Defau is a 36 year old resident of Florida. She is currently in the custody of Broward County Sheriff's Office in Florida. The suspect is wanted by multiple jurisdictions in Alabama on charges similar to those that she is currently in jail for. CPD would like to say thanks to everyone that helped to spread the word as well as to our fellow LEO agencies that assisted in the case. Warrants have been obtained for the charges that occurred in our City.

CPD would like to remind everyone that our annual Peach Run will be Saturday morning between 6:30 AM and 8:00 AM along Lay Dam Road. We will be assisting with the traffic to ensure the safety of the runners. Please help us spread the word that there may be some slight delays in traffic during the event. If you are traveling through the area, please use caution around the runners and be aware that our officers will be managing some of the intersections.

On 6/8/2017 at about 3:30 AM, A subject broke into the Highway 22 Quick stop and stole to***co and alcohol products from the business after breaking out one of the windows. From the video collected, it is believed that the suspect is a late teen to early twenties white male. The subject was wearing red and black shorts, an Alabama hoodie and possibly house shoes at the time of the offense. TRAFFIC UPDATE:
The traffic on I65 should be returning to normal shortly. A series of accidents caused major issue today between the 203 mile marker and the 208 exit. One accident involving an RV began the incident and the following cleanup caused the interstate to be shut down. During the cleanup operation, several other accidents occurred as traffic slowed. There is currently one lane open and the other should be open soon. Fortunately the injuries were minor in all the accidents. Thanks for your patience today.
