CPD Case Update:
Jeffrey Alexander Calzada has been sentenced to 26 years to life in state prison for the 2022 murder of his ex-girlfriend, Anisa Castaneda, in Claremont.

On August 12, 2022, Claremont Police detectives worked with the Murrieta and Pomona Police Departments after a woman was found fatally stabbed in a vehicle outside Murrieta City Hall, next to the Murrieta Police Department. The suspect, Jeffrey Calzada, was detained by Murrieta officers.

The multi-agency investigation determined the homicide occurred in the City of Claremont, near the Garey Avenue and Foothill Boulevard area. Calzada was arrested by the Claremont Police Department and was convicted by a jury of first-degree murder in April, 2026.

On June 9, 2026, he was sentenced in Pomona Superior Court to 25 years to life for the murder, plus one additional year for a weapons enhancement, for a total sentence of 26 years to life in state prison.

The CPD previously posted on this case on August 14, 2022.

In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and designated the calendar week in which May 15 falls as National Police Week. Peace Officers Memorial Day pays special recognition to law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty while protecting the safety of others.

National Police Week recognizes the contributions of law enforcement personnel across the nation. Each day, officers put on their uniforms without knowing what challenges lie ahead. They have answered a call to public service that is both demanding and often dangerous.

This week, the City of Claremont thanks the officers of the Claremont Police Department for their service to the community and honors those who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
