It appears that our endorsed candidate in Pomona, Nora Garcia - District 3, will cruise to a convincing reelection. PVDC also endorsed Measure Z, that also was passed by voters convincingly.

In District 2, the race will likely head into a runoff. In District 5, Elliot Rothman is holding onto a slim lead.

Thank you to Pomona residents for going out and voting. That’s the only way we can create change.

Happy Pride Month! 🌈

Pride Month is a time to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community and recognize the many ways LGBTQ+ individuals have enriched our workplaces, neighborhoods, and lives.

It’s also a reminder that everyone deserves to feel respected, valued, and included for who they are. When people feel comfortable bringing their authentic selves to work and to their communities, we all benefit from the diversity of perspectives, experiences, and talents they bring.

This month, and throughout the year, let’s continue to treat one another with kindness, respect, and compassion. Small acts of understanding and support can make a meaningful difference.

Wishing everyone a happy, safe, and meaningful Pride Month.

PVDC urges a Yes vote on Measure Z

Measure Z in Pomona is fundamentally about making a voter-approved policy actually work.

Voters already passed Measure Y, which requires the city to dedicate at least 10% of general fund revenues to children and youth programs. Measure Z doesn’t create that commitment, it fixes and stabilizes how it’s implemented, ensuring those investments can happen without undermining other essential city services.

The case for Measure Z

1. It responsibly honors the voter mandate of Measure Y. Measure Z ensures that mandate is carried out in a way that is sustainable. Without adjustments, rigid funding formulas can unintentionally destabilize city budgets. Measure Z protects the intent of Measure Y while making sure the city can actually deliver on it long-term.

2. It protects core city services
One of the biggest risks with earmarked funding is that it can crowd out essentials like public safety, infrastructure, and emergency response. Measure Z is designed specifically to avoid that tradeoff, ensuring youth investments don’t come at the expense of police, fire, or basic services.

3. It invests upstream, where it matters most
Funding youth programs isn’t just social policy, it’s fiscal policy. Investments in after-school programs, education, and youth services reduce long-term costs tied to crime, homelessness, and unemployment. Measure Z helps institutionalize that “pay now or pay later” reality.

4. It creates a sustainable framework, not a political talking point
Anyone can support “kids” in theory. Measure Z is about building a structure that actually works over time, regardless of who is on the council. It turns a campaign promise into a durable policy.

5. It’s about balance, not ideology
This isn’t a debate between being “for kids” or “for public safety.” Measure Z is an attempt to do both. It ensures Pomona invests in its future and maintains the services residents rely on today.

6. It has support from established community organizations
This is why the Pomona Valley Democratic Club has endorsed Measure Z. PVDC recognizes that it strikes a balance between investing in youth and maintaining fiscal responsibility.

Virginia votes for redistricting, a rebuke of Trump sponsored Gerrymandering in Texas, potentially adding four more House seats for Democrats as they battle to reclaim control of the House of Representatives.

Virginia voters have approved the redrawing of the state's congressional maps, NBC News and the Decision Desk HQ reported on Tuesday, April 21.
