🦁 Take this 16th century doodle of a lion that appears to be on the verge of devouring something - which is both fitting for the season and especially intriguing since it was discovered after one of our staff members noticed a series of pointing hand illustrations in the same book, apparently serving a similar function as today's highlighters.

: The “They Called Us Enemy”: Japanese American Incarceration During WWII exhibit is now on view through July 31, 2026.

This exhibit, part of the One Book, One Coast initiative and inspired by George Takei’s memoir, shares the stories of families forcibly removed from their homes during World War II through archival materials and secondary sources.

What a meaningful day of community, conversation and history.

Thank you to LA County Library for including The Claremont Colleges Library in this past weekend's event featuring George Takei and his graphic memoir, They Called Us Enemy.

We appreciated the opportunity to share materials from our Japanese American incarceration collections and engage attendees in conversations about this important chapter of American history.

Bram Stoker’s was first published on May 26, 1897 — 129 years ago today.

To celebrate, we’re spotlighting two wonderfully items from our Special Collections: a historic stage manager’s copy of the first authorized stage adaptation of Dracula by Hamilton Deane and John L. Balderston (photos 1-3), and Edward Gorey’s delightfully eerie Dracula: A Toy Theatre (photos 4-7). 📚

These items are available for hands-on research through a Reading Room appointment!
