We hope our CUSD students, staff, and families enjoy a safe and restful holiday weekend.

Turns out a room full of kindergartners telling their grown-ups “it’s okay” makes for pretty good television. Our Vista del Valle students landed on NBC 4’s Bright Spot this week, and we could not be prouder of them. Thank you NBCLA

Yesterday they told you it was okay.

Today? They have news.

Seats have been found. Snack trash has been thrown away. Recess has been declared the best part.

Day two in Claremont Unified, and they are basically running the place.

Today our TK and kindergarten students walked through the doors for a brand new year.

They found their classrooms. They met their teachers. They made friends before lunch.

And they wanted you to know they are okay.

Thank you for trusting us with them. Here is to a wonderful year ahead in Claremont Unified. To those dropping off for the very first time, we have got them.

Red carpet. Cheering staff. A whole lot of positive energy. 🎉

Our newest certificated educators got the Claremont welcome they deserve, followed by a tour with Assistant Superintendent Kevin Ward walking them through the history of our city and schools.

Welcome to CUSD. Let’s have a great year.

More than 100 CUSD students are already set for day one. At a back-to-school giveaway hosted at the CUSD Student and Family Resource Center, students picked out a brand new backpack and filled it with everything on their supply list, guided by a shopping buddy and greeted with welcome signs and smiles. No cost to any family.

Thank you to KidCare International and organizer Erica Alanis, Five Below, Granite Creek Community Church, Burtek, and Claremont Cars and Coffee for making it happen. A full circle moment, too: the Five Below district manager who donated the backpacks, Mike Noyes, once sat in that very room as an Oakmont sixth grader.

The Student and Family Resource Center is open year-round and welcomes donations of food, baby items, school supplies, and toiletries.

First day is August 19. See you soon, Claremont 💛

Please join us in welcoming Frances Baird as the new Principal of Chaparral Elementary School! 🎉

Mrs. Baird brings 18 years of elementary education experience to the Chaparral community, including six years of school site leadership in the Walnut-Valley Unified School District. She holds a Master's in Education Administration from Cal State Fullerton, where she is currently pursuing her Doctorate in Educational Leadership.

Known for her collaborative, innovative, and student-centered approach, Mrs. Baird has already hit the ground running as she prepares for the 2026-2027 school year. Her appointment will be brought to the Board of Education for approval at its August 6, 2026 meeting.

Opportunities to meet Mrs. Baird this summer will be announced soon, and she cannot wait to get to know our students, staff, and caregivers.

Welcome to the CUSD family, Mrs. Baird! 💙
