William W. Barnes Children's Advocacy Center

William W. Barnes Children's Advocacy Center Serving Rogers, Mayes and Craig counties, our mission is to reduce the trauma of child abuse. Child abuse hurts. Child abuse victims need our support.

It hurts the child, the family, and our community. The mission of the William W. Barnes Children's Advocacy Center is to reduce the trauma of child abuse by providing a safe, child-friendly place where a team of professionals can gather evidence to aid in the investigation and prosecution of child abuse cases. We also support the child and non-offending parent(s) with mental health treatment for t

he child and crisis intervention for the parents. The Center is a non-profit organization serving Rogers, Mayes and Craig County families and is comprised of those entities concerned with the well-being and protection of our children. Our Center provides services at no cost to any family referred by Child Welfare (DHS) or Law Enforcement in Rogers, Mayes, and Craig Counties. In response to the problem of child abuse, the Center supports a team approach to the investigation, prosecution, and treatment of child abuse. In 2016, the CAC provided services to 357 children through a forensic interview, medical evaluation, mental health treatment, or a combination of these services. We also served 246 families in 2016.

🎓Introducing Pathways to Practice!
We’re excited to officially launch a new initiative at the William W. Barnes Children’s Advocacy Center: Pathways to Practice: A Forensic Interview Training Partnership for RSU Undergraduate Students.

Pathways to Practice is a partnership between William W. Barnes Children’s Advocacy Center and Rogers State University designed to give selected undergraduate students meaningful, hands-on experience in forensic interviewing while building a pathway from the classroom to the field.

We are thrilled to introduce our very first Pathways to Practice student, Raylin!💙
Raylin is a senior at Rogers State University majoring in Psychology, with an interest in working with children and making a difference in the lives of families in our community. She will be with us through May, gaining real-world experience in forensic interviewing, multidisciplinary team collaboration, and the many facets of child advocacy.

This week, WWBCAC is sponsoring Raylin’s participation in the five-day ChildFirst® Forensic Interview Training, beginning her journey toward becoming a certified forensic interviewer.

Over the coming months, Raylin will have the opportunity to shadow experienced forensic interviewers, participate in MDT debriefings and peer review, learn about case documentation and courtroom preparation, and conduct forensic interviews under supervision.

But Pathways to Practice is about more than one student.
We’re building a pathway.
A pathway from the classroom to the field.
A pathway that gives students practical experience before they graduate.
A pathway that strengthens the child advocacy workforce.
And a pathway we hope can eventually be replicated by CACs and universities across Oklahoma and beyond.
We are incredibly excited to invest in the next generation of child protection professionals and to see where this first step takes us.
Welcome to the CAC family, Raylin! We’re so glad you’re here!💙
