🚒🔥 FIREFIGHTER SPOTLIGHT: KEITH KULPA 🔥🚒

This week, we’re proud to recognize Keith Kulpa, our department’s Treasurer, who has been a dedicated member since 2004!

❤️ Why did you join the department?

As a lifelong resident of Clark Mills, Keith wanted to find a meaningful way to give back to the community he calls home.

🚨 What has been your most memorable or rewarding experience?

For Keith, one experience that stands out is helping the community in the aftermath of the tornado.

“It was a long day that turned into a long week. What meant the most to me was seeing how much the community appreciated all the firefighters who came together to help.”

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 A little about Keith outside the firehouse:

Keith has been a school counselor at Westmoreland Central School for 26 years! When he’s not serving his community, he enjoys taking cruises, cooking, and spending quality time with his family.

💬 What advice would you give someone considering joining?

“I would encourage anyone who wants to give back to their community to join their local fire department. Departments need all kinds of help, and you don’t have to be the person going into burning buildings to make a difference. There are so many important roles that help keep a department running successfully.”

🚒 Training Tonight, Ready for Tomorrow! 🚑

During tonight’s practice, EMT Todd Healy led members through hands-on extrication training, stair chair usage, and a valuable refresher on cold weather injuries.

❄️ With winter right around the corner, it’s the perfect time to review the signs, symptoms, and dangers of cold weather emergencies so our members are prepared for whatever the season brings.

Training is an important part of what we do. Whether it’s sharpening our skills, refreshing our knowledge, or practicing techniques, we’re always working to stay ready for whatever situations may arise.

Continued training means continued readiness to serve our community! 🚒💪

🎃🎃Thank you to everyone that came to see us today! We loved seeing all the costumes and smiles!! Thank you to everyone that brought a truck and trunk too! Clinton, NY Fire Department, Clark Mills UMC , Kirkland Town Library, Central Oneida County Volunteer Ambulance Corps, and Mötley Chëw for some awesome food!! We had a great day!

🚒🔥 MEMBER SPOTLIGHT: KRISTIN HOFFMAN! 🔥🚒

This week, we’re shining the spotlight on Kristin Hoffman, our department’s Secretary!

Kristin has officially been with the department for 6 years, but she’ll tell you it’s really been 10 years if you count dating the Chief! 😂❤️

🚒 WHY SHE JOINED

Before officially joining, Kristin had already spent years volunteering and helping out at department events. With encouragement from fellow members, she finally decided to put in an application!

Kristin had always wondered whether her asthma and shorter stature would hold her back from being a firefighter. But she wasn’t about to let that stop her!

And when _someone_ jokingly told her she couldn’t join because the fire department was their thing? Her response was simple: “Too bad, it’s mine now too!” 😂

❤️ HER MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT

For Kristin, one of the most meaningful experiences with the department came during one of the hardest days of her life.

When her mother passed away, the funeral home didn’t have enough pallbearers to carry her mother to her final resting place. Word spread through the department, and several members stepped up to make sure Kristin had the help she needed to lay her mother to rest.

It’s a powerful reminder that being part of a fire department means so much more than responding to emergencies. It’s about showing up for one another when it matters most. ❤️

🏕️ A LITTLE MORE ABOUT KRISTIN

When she’s not helping keep the department running, Kristin works as a Pharmacy Technician. She also enjoys camping, traveling, and spending time with animals! 🐾

💬 HER ADVICE TO FUTURE MEMBERS

“Come prepared to meet all different people and to be put in all different situations. There will be ups and downs. We can always use new ideas and new people.”

Today marks seventy years serving the wonderful community of Clark Mills, as well as the wonderful neighboring communities that we are always happy to help. Thank you to all the men and women that have served in our ranks, be it past chiefs, civil/auxiliary, commissioners, or of course firefighters. The dedication to this department and the dedication of the department to the community has always been strong. Likewise, the support of the community to the fire department has been unwavering. From the Field Days, to the fund drive, to the events and dinners of all kinds, we can always count on the community to show up for us in numbers, and for that we are extremely grateful. Thank you to our mutual aid companies that have always been there when we need them, as well as our EMS partners in Central Oneida County Volunteer Ambulance and Edwards Ambulance, and to our law enforcement partners in Kirkland Police, New Hartford Police, Oneida County Sheriff's and New York State Police, and of course or brothers and sisters at Oneida County Emergency Services. Thank you for allowing us to serve all of you these past seventy years! We are looking forward to serve you for many more years in the future!

Name: Eva Haynes

❤️ Why did you join the department?

I joined because I wanted to give back and make a difference in my community.

🚒 What has been your most rewarding experience?

Some of my most rewarding calls have been lift assists. Sometimes, all someone needs is a couple of helping hands to get back on their feet! It’s a reminder that even the smallest acts of kindness can make a big difference.

🐾 Tell us a few fun facts about yourself!

I own a painting business, and I’m a proud pet parent to three dogs and a cat! One of my greatest joys is spending time with my daughter and making memories on our adventures together. When I’m not working or volunteering, you can find me cheering on the Utica Comets, working on cars, or heading off on a random adventure. I love keeping life interesting!

🔥 What advice would you give someone thinking about joining?

When I joined, I had no experience in the fire service and no family in the department. Five years later, I have both! There’s a place for everyone in the fire department, regardless of your background or experience. It’s an amazing opportunity to learn new skills, build lifelong friendships, and work together to keep our community safe.
