Remembering Alan Reilley

Stronger Clark joins our community in mourning the loss of Alan C. Reilley, a true staple of the Clark community.

Alan dedicated decades of his life to serving others, including an incredible 52 years as a volunteer with the Clark Volunteer Emergency Squad. His commitment to Clark and the people who call it home leaves a lasting legacy.

We extend our deepest condolences and prayers to Alan’s family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him.

Thank you, Alan, for a lifetime of service to our community. You will be deeply missed. 🙏

A $60 million building went up at 35 Walnut Ave. Our schools took a pay cut.

2019, half-demolished lot: paid the schools $102,513.
Today, 177 luxury apartments: pays the schools $55,250. Frozen for 30 years.
Normal taxes would pay: $695,800 a year.

The building sends 28 additional kids to Clark schools. The payment barely cover 3.

And Clark's own rules called for 35 affordable homes here. The council's custom deal delivered 28.

Every council member voted yes. Nobody asked a question.

Schools should never lose money when Clark grows.

When Ward 2 Councilman Pat O'Connor moved and voted for the 30 year tax break for CubeSmart in council, he called it "a win for the township and the taxpayers" and "a great addition to the Second Ward."

The town assessed the CubeSmart building at over $20 million.

If taxed like a Clark homeowner they would pay about $458,000.

What it actually paid last year: $55,876.

What the deal sends Clark's schools: $0. By design.

The schools now get less from that corner than the old Lunchbox strip paid before it was demolished.

Ward 2 traded a place people gathered for a storage warehouse with a 30 year tax break, and the rest of us cover the difference. Because when a $20 million building is exempted, the levy doesn't shrink. It shifts to homeowners.

That is not a win.

This is another example of Mayor Angel Albanese saying something that is just plainly not true. It's also an example of the council standing silently by instead of correcting the record. This shows that although some of these people have been in power for over 2 decades they still don't know basic facts about how town government works. Everyone makes mistakes, but the problem here is that our town tax assessor had a meeting with the whole council and mayor in December to explain this. Our audit reports mention this. The county tax records show it to be true. And it's clear that the mayor knows who to call to get the correct information, but instead of getting the facts straight she says provably untrue things. This is not Leadership That Works. It's repeating falsehoods intentionally just to avoid having to say that you were mistaken. And it's council people doing nothing to make sure information given to residents is true.
