Working closely with our partners at North Routt Fire Protection District and Routt County Sheriff's Office, we have made the decision to cancel this year's Fourth of July fireworks display due to severe drought conditions.

Although there has been some recent moisture, it hasn't improved the situation enough to proceed with the fireworks. The cancellation was necessary for safety reasons, as the drought conditions mean even a small spark could start a wildfire.

We recognize all of the efforts put into planning this fireworks display, and we look forward to working with local agencies, the community and fundraisers to shift our planning efforts to next year when we hope to have more favorable conditions.

CPW encourages those who planned to celebrate at Steamboat Lake to keep their plans, but wanted to share this information early for anyone who may need to adjust their celebrations.

Parks Update 5/23:

Today is opening day for our 2026 summer season!

VISITOR CENTER:

-Open from 8-5 Sunday to Thursday
-Open from 8-6 Friday and Saturday
-For information, please all 970-879-3922

CAMPING:

-ALL camping is by reservation only
-To make reservations, please visit CPWshop.com or call Reserve America at 1800-244-5613
-Both parks will continue to follow the NO SHOW policy for camping this season. For more information, please visit CPWShop.com

FACILITIES:

-All facilities including both shower houses(CSBs) and the dump and fill station are now open
-Potable water is available throughout both parks

BOAT RAMP:
-Hours for the boat ramp are from 8-4 daily
-Hours starting June 1 will be from 7am to 6pm
-we are now able to do decons

Update 5/17:

Nice spring storm rolled in last night with more snow and rain expected until Tuesday.

For that reason, all day use areas have been closed to traffic. We want to be sure that we have usable roads for the summer season. Please feel free to park by the barricades and walk in.

BOATING:

-The boat ramp at Steamboat Lake is open daily from 8am to 4pm. These hours will change starting June 1.
-Please note that at this time we are unable to do boat decontaminations.

CAMPING:

-The Wheeler Loop in the Dutch Hill Campground at Steamboat Lake is now opened to first come-first served camping. This loop offers electric sites.
- The Pearl Lake Campground is also now open for first come-first served camping. Pearl Lake is all non-electric.
-Camping permits for first come-first served camping can be purchased at the kiosk of the Dutch Hill Campground, by completing a self-serve camping envelope, or by visiting the visitor center during hours of operation. Please note that kiosks only allow you to purchase a one-night stay.

FACILITIES:

-Both Camper Services Buildings(Shower house) are still closed and will open 5/22/26.
-The dump and fill station is still closed and will open 5/22/26.

Park Updates 5/2/26:

Camping:

-The Wheeler Loop in the Dutch Hill Campground at Steamboat Lake is now open for first come-first served camping.
-Camping permits for camping in the Wheeler Loop be purchased at the kiosk of the Dutch Hill Campground, by completing a self-serve camping envelope, or by visiting the visitor center during hours of operation. Please note that Kiosks only allow you to purchase a one-night stay.
-All other campgrounds including the Pearl Lake Campground are still closed for the season due to conditions.
-Both Camper Services Buildings, and the dump and fill stations are still closed for the season.

Hiking:

-Hiking trails are accessible. However, please come prepared to encounter mud.

Fishing:

-Both lakes are iced off. Creeks are running.
-Please remember that day use areas may not opened due to conditions. If they are closed, you may park outside of the gates and walk in.
-We here the fish are biting! and of what we hear they are still spawning.

Boating:

- The boat ramp at Steamboat Lake is now opened .
-Boat ramp hours will be from 8-4 Daily.
-Please note that we will not be able to do decons at this time.

4/22: Day us areas will be opened today. These areas include: Sage Flats, Rainbow Ridge, Placer Cove, and Meadow Point.

Please note that we may need to re-close these areas based on the weather conditions(rain, snow). Our goal is to protect the roads as much as possible so all can enjoy them come summer.
