Clark County Conservation District is here to be of assistance for this upcoming cover crop season. Small grain producers and sileage cutting are in the near future and lets get some cover on these acres and protect the soil that is there and prep the acres for your next crop.

We can assist in planting cover crops as well as getting cover crop seed ordered for your operation.

With the dry hot weather this week I figured it was a great time to remind everyone to not forget to water your trees!

NEWLY PLANTED TREES
The most critical watering needs are for the trees that will be planted this spring. These trees do not have a well-developed root system and regardless of whether they are planted bare-root, container or balled-and-burlapped, they will require extra attention to watering this spring and summer. A newly planted seedling needs between a pint and quart of water per day while a newly planted ornamental tree, one about 6 to 8 feet tall, needs about 2 to 3 gallons per day. Ideally this quantity of water is applied daily for the first couple of weeks following planting. The root system of these transplants is fairly small and larger quantities of water may flow away from the tree roots before being absorbed. It is also important to water directly next to the stem during this time period so the water is available to the tree, not the surrounding soil or vegetation.

2026 Tree Season Is Officially Done!

We cannot express our gratitude enough for another successful tree season.

If it weren’t for each and everyone of you coming in and purchasing trees/shrubs/plants, tree supplies, etc. we would not be able to do what we do in Clark County.

If we missed anyone at the end of our tree season who wanted plants, please get ahold of District Manager, Kyle Reeves regarding pre-ordering for Spring 2027!

Kyle is able to start ordering for Spring 2027 here at the end of the month and into July. Anyone interested in fruit trees, potted trees and large ornamental, please get on the order early to get all specialty varieties before they are gone.

Tree care: 101
1. If it looks dry, water it.
2. If it looks like a w**d, pull it.
3. If it looks dead, wait many of our trees are transplants and have to adapt to its soil and grow into its roots.
Maintenance is the best survival of the trees planted.
In my 9 years of working at the district, the best tree sites are the ones that are maintained properly.

CLARK AREA!

Here is a current list of what trees and shrubs we have in stock still available for purchase. We have received a lot of phones calls regarding what we have left. This list, we have been trying to get it out to everyone but have been in the field trying to get all our shelterbelt projects finished up for the year.

If there is anything on the list that you are interested in, please get ahold of District Manager, Kyle Reeves to schedule a day and a time to stop out and take a look at what all we have left this year.

If we don't have something of interest this year for you, don't loose hope. Coordinate with Kyle this summer where he can get stuff on a pre-order list for next spring.
**THIS IS IMPORTANT FOR ANY LARGE ORNAMENTAL TREES AS WELL AS POTTED CONIFERS!!!! Please keep in contact with Kyle regarding getting any of this stuff in for next year.

We cant thank everyone enough who has came and purchased plants from us this year. If it weren't for all the support in the county, we wouldn't be able to do any of this. Thank you! Thank you!
