Saving Clark Memorial Library

Saving Clark Memorial Library Happenings at Clark Memorial Library in Clarkdale, Arizona The following was written when this page was first created, in the summer of 2017.

The library subsequently reopened under YCFLD management on October 19--the library's 90th birthday. The full story is recorded at https://savecml.wordpress.com.

It was a critical time in the 90-year history of the Clark Memorial Library in Clarkdale, AZ. In February the Community Services Commission recommended the library be closed, and, in

spite of community opposition, the Town Council voted not to renew its contract with the Yavapai Library Network. Clark Memorial Library closed June 30. But all was not lost. The director of the County Library District, aware of the community's support, proposed that the county take over library operations and supply a library manager. Town government tentatively agreed to maintain the building as a library. Library supporters formed a non-profit Friends of Clark Memorial Library to raise funds for materials and programs, and to find volunteers to help run the library. We now have hope the library will reopen this fall, with a much brighter future that it had under town management. A huge thanks to the hundreds of residents who have given support to this effort. Had you not made yourselves heard, none of this would be possible. Friends of Clark Memorial Library's 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status was effective as of July 12, 2017. We welcome your donations. Background and regular updates are on the blog at the Save Clark Memorial Library blogsite: https://savecml.wordpress.com. A dedicated library website is in the works at http://ClarkMemorialLibrary.org. Stay tuned for more good news!

After admiring Art in the Clark's wonderful "May Flowers" art pieces adorning the library walls, take a peek into the display cases in the entryway. Besides your own reflection, you'll see more pieces by Bear Schutz, Jenny Emminger, Ellen Black, and Ivan Whitehawk. Altogether, the library hosts thirty-six floral creations by eleven artists--an exhibit not to be missed by anyone who appreciates fine art!

These flowers are fleeting, so come see them by May 30 at Clark Memorial Library, 39 N. Ninth Street in the Clarkdale Town Center. 928-634-5323
