This week, CVFD had the privilege of hosting the Introduction to Wildland Firefighting training class. Regina Gregory, from the Arkansas Department of Agriculture Forestry Division led the 2 night training class.

While the training was held at the CVFD’s main station, there were 37 fire department personnel from 11 area fire departments represented. Those departments include:
Clarkridge, Oakland Promiseland, Henderson, Gamaliel, Bruno-Pyatt, Buford, Ralph-Caney, Rodney Jordan, Grover Township, Mountain Home FD and Gassville FD.

Thank you to Regina for sharing your expertise and to all the fire fighters who participated.

This rain and cooler weather is a much needed break from the heat we have been having, but summer isn’t over yet and the high temps will be returning.

Here are a few tips for when the heat returns.

A house fire can happen in a matter of minutes, but taking a few simple steps today can help protect what matters most.

We encourage everyone to take a few moments to make sure your home is fire safe, as well as creating an emergency safety plan. To help you achieve this, CVFD has a helpful checklist we can provide to you that includes all the things you should look at to make sure your home is the safest it can be, as well as creating exit strategies and safety procedures in case of a fire. The best time to prepare is before an emergency happens. A few minutes spent planning today could save lives tomorrow.

If you are interested in a Fire Safety Handout, you can comment on this post, call 870-425-3230 and leave a message, reach out to any of the CVFD firefighters or come to the next pancake breakfast (8/15) and pick one up.

Clarkridge Volunteer Fire Department is proud to serve our community. Together, we can help prevent fires and keep our families safe.

4th of July is an exciting holiday. Fireworks, bbq and making memories with family and friends. Don’t let those memories include injuries and accidents. Here are a few tips to help you have the best holiday ever.

1) Keep a bucket of water close by when lighting fireworks.
2) Don’t relight duds.
3) Only sober adults should light fireworks.
4) Stay hydrated! It’s hot out and heat related illness are happening in our area daily.

Our department loves our community, but we prefer to show up to your celebrations because of an invitation to enjoy a hot dog instead of an emergency. Have a safe and happy 4th of July!!

Clarkridge VFD responded to a vehicle and trailer accident this morning. They were on scene for a little over an hour helping with everything from medical care to traffic control.

Sometimes traffic needs to be stopped to allow emergency vehicles through, wreckers to load and tow vehicles away and clean up to be done. When you come across an accident, please be patient and remember these things: stop when asked to, drive slowly when allowed to pass and please don’t pay more attention to the wreck than the road. Your caution and patience keeps emergency personnel safe and allows them to do their jobs.

And to the good samaritans that helped with traffic control and taking care of the driver until first responders were on scene, thank you! We didn’t get your names, but your assistance was greatly appreciated.

It’s been a busy couple weeks of training for our volunteers.

This past Thursday our department joined forces with Mountain Home Fire Department and Cotter Gassville Rural Fire Department for Auto Aid training.

The Thursday before Randy, Tony and Blaine from the Department of Forestry provided a very interesting and educational presentation of Wildfire Suppression.

It’s a wonderful thing when different areas of the community come together with the goal of making the whole community stronger.

A few of our firefighters stayed well into the night assisting Department of Forestry with the fire at Calamity Beach on Saturday. While it is unknown how the fire initially started, it did end up turning into a control burn at the discretion of the Department of Forestry.

We are still under a burn ban, meaning there is a legal restriction on all outdoor burning including fire pits, campfires and trash piles. Many people don’t realize that fire embers can travel 1 to 2 miles depending on the weather and environmental conditions. So while a small campfire or fire pit may seem harmless, it can turn into a much larger problem.
