In 1928 they were approached by members of the Scranton Rotary Club seeking to convert their men’s club into an official Rotary club. A meeting was agreed upon and 5 interested men met with 2 members of the Scranton Rotary in the medical office of Dr. H. Eugene Simrell in Clarks Summit. After the meeting, the Men’s Club agreed to form a new chapter of Rotary International. A week later, on Februar

Did you see the terrific press Rotary Club of the Abington's Interact Club at Abington Heights High School got in the widely distributed HAPPENINGS MAGAZINE this month? The article promotes Interact/Rotaract, and the Club's plastic recycling and plarn (plastic yarn used to create sleeping mats for the homeless) projects. Congratulations to this active community-minded Club, their Advisor, Mr. Adam Baker, and Rotary Liaison, Leah Ducato Rudolph.

The May issue is packed with good stuff. Read it here: https://issuu.com/happe.../docs/happenings_magazine_may_2026

Remember the sugar cubes???

Key Facts About the Sugar Cube Vaccine:Method: A few drops of the liquid vaccine were placed onto a sugar cube or, sometimes, in a spoonful of syrup (Sabin Syrup).Development: Developed by Dr. Albert Sabin to be easier to administer than the 1955 Salk injectable vaccine.Administration: It was widely distributed in school gyms, church halls, and fire stations. Why Sugar: The vaccine had a "bitter, salty taste," and the sugar helped children swallow it easily.Replacement: The U.S. phased out the oral sugar cube vaccine by 2000 in favor of the inactivated (dead) polio vaccine (IPV) injection to eliminate rare cases of vaccine-acquired polio. The iconic method is often cited as inspiration for the song "A Spoonful of Sugar (Helps the Medicine Go Down)" from the movie Mary Poppins!
