As warmer weather approaches, the Clarks Summit Police Department would like to remind residents of the laws and safety considerations regarding the operation of electric scooters, motorized pedal cycles, e-bikes, electric dirt bikes, and similar vehicles within the Borough.

We encourage everyone to enjoy the outdoors and take advantage of the season. However, these activities must be conducted safely and in appropriate locations. The Borough’s business district and primary roadways experience significant traffic volume — approximately 20,000 vehicles per day according to a PennDOT traffic study. Operating these vehicles in high-traffic areas presents serious safety concerns for riders, motorists, and pedestrians alike.

The Police Department has received multiple reports and complaints regarding unsafe and unlawful operation of these vehicles. As a result, officers have begun issuing warnings to individuals found in violation of the Pennsylvania Motor Vehicle Code. We are also contacting and informing parents and guardians when appropriate to ensure they understand the applicable laws and safety requirements.

Please be advised that continued violations may result in the issuance of citations.

Our goal is education and prevention. We ask for the community’s cooperation in helping keep Clarks Summit safe for everyone.

We are deeply saddened by the unexpected passing of Police Officer Scott Seigler. Officer Seigler was a true asset to the Abington community, serving with dedication, integrity, and compassion. He was also a valued friend to the Clarks Summit Police Department, always willing to lend support and stand alongside his fellow officers. He will be remembered for the positive impact he made on the communities he served. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time. Rest in peace, Officer Seigler.

It is with profound saddness that we announce the sudden passing of Police Officer Scott Seigler, badge #49, a 16-year veteran of the department. Officer Siegler was a dedicated memeber of the SAPD and took great pride in serving the community he lived in and loved. He was a great mentor to new recruits but above all else an amazing friend, husband and father. All of our thoughts and prayers are with the Siegler family, friends and community as a whole.
