On Thursday, members of the Media Production class attended the Pennsylvania School Press Association Regional Student Journalism Competition at Bloomsburg University. They heard presentations from a variety of speakers, toured the university's media studios, and entered their own work into the competition in hopes of moving on to States in the spring.

At the Special Olympics Youth Summit Yesterday, we were presented as a National Banner School. There are more than 530 schools across 65 counties through its Unified Champion Schools program. Only 31 of those schools are designated Special Olympics National Banner Unified Champion Schools.

There were 18 high schools and 2 middle schools at the Youth Summit. We were asked to present on the success of whole school engagement and inclusion at AHHS. We spoke about how whole school engagement and inclusion are so successful at AHHS.

Peer tutoring is up and running and ready to support students in finishing the first marking period strong. Peer tutors are located in the Library during all periods throughout the day. The library AKA The Learning Lab, is also staffed with 2 teachers each period of the day.

If students need help in any subject areas, they may request a pass to the library during their study hall. Students may also access this service during their lunch period once they have finished eating! Don't delay your success--we are here to help!

Seamus Allison and Sarah Newton have been named Commended Students in the 2027 National Merit Scholarship Program. A Letter of Commendation from the school and the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, which conducts the program, was presented by Dr. Theony to these scholastically talented seniors.

About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Although they will not continue in the 2027 competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, Commended Students placed among the top 50,000 students who entered the 2027 competition by taking the 2025 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

"Those being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success," commented a spokesperson for NMSC. "These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation. We hope that this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic success."

This past Saturday, September 26th, several of our students participated in Hospice of the Sacred Heart's Remembrance Walk held at McDade Park.

Over the course of last week, we issued approximately 100 parking passes for the parking lot in which parent drop-off occurs. If you are a family utilizing parent drop-off, it is imperative that the moment your car stops in the drop-off lane (from the green sign to the red sign), your child EXITS the car.

If your child is a permit driver and you need to switch roles at drop-off, we respectfully ask that you do not pull the 'switch' until you are through the drop-off zone. There are visitor spots just beyond the last parking lot attendant to the right (after red sign). Please park your car in one of those spots while you switch roles.

We should be unloading about 10 cars at a time, and performing drop-off in this fleet-style fashion will expedite the process.

Please be courteous to the new junior drivers in our parking lot; safety should always remain our top priority.

Friendly reminder to all drivers that our speed limit on campus is 15 mph. Please adhere to that, as it is properly signed, and SAPD will enforce it through ticketing.

Good afternoon, Comet Nation!

After speaking with several residents regarding the fireworks used during our home football games, we’ve decided to make some adjustments to better balance our student activity experiences with our responsibility to be a good neighbor.

Moving forward, we will eliminate the use of percussive fireworks that create loud noises, with the exception of one launch between approximately 6:45–7:00 PM as our team is introduced. Other fireworks will be limited to halftime, Comet scoring plays, and the end of the game, and will consist only of effects that illuminate and sparkle without the loud percussive sound.

We want to thank our AHHS neighbors for their patience, professionalism, and understanding as we worked through their concerns. We value both the traditions and experiences that make Friday nights special for our students and community and our responsibility to be considerate of those who live near our facilities.

Thank you for helping us continue to make Abington Heights a great place to live, learn, and celebrate together.
