Several people have asked what's going on with Dick's Mill so here is what has been happening: Earlier this year Nancy, Becky and I gifted the mill to the Missouri River Valley Steam Engine Association along with the equipment including the steam engine and boiler. After Jimmy passed away in 2016, we debated what to do with the property and after a lot of thought and discussion decided that he would appreciate the steam engine association's ownership as a way to assure the future of the building. What the future holds will be decided by the new owners but the three of us believe we've done what Jimmy would like best - taken steps to protect the future of Dick's Mill...

Dick's Mill, Cotton, Cooper County Missouri. In the late 1970's, battery-powered hand tools weren't readily available so much of the work with wood was done with hand tools powered by human strength. These photos show some of the cuts and joints that were used in rebuilding the engine room on the back of the building. These pictures were taken around 1980.

I'll be posting several photos of Dick's Mill as it looked over the years. This early photo (probably early 20th century) shows the south and east side of the mill and the small annex that housed the steam boiler with the smokestack.
