Delta Regional Authority

DRA works to create jobs, build communities, and improve the lives of those that reside in the region.

The Delta Regional Authority (DRA) is a federal-state partnership created by Congress in 2000 to promote and encourage the economic development of the lower Mississippi River Delta region and Alabama Black Belt. The DRA was established in 2000 as a formal framework for joint Federal-State collaboration to promote and encourage the economic development of the lower Mississippi River and Alabama Bla

ck Belt regions. To fulfill this purpose, DRA invests in projects supporting transportation infrastructure, basic public infrastructure, workforce training, and business development. DRA’s region encompasses 252 counties and parishes in parts of Alabama, Arkansas, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, and Tennessee. DRA’s enabling legislation dictates that at least 75% of DRA’s funds must be invested in economically distressed counties and parishes and isolated areas within non-distressed counties and parishes. In addition, half of DRA’s funds must support transportation infrastructure and basic public infrastructure.

The 2026 Delta Leadership Institute (DLI) recently wrapped up an incredible fourth session in Marion, Illinois, experiencing the best of Southern Illinois through meaningful conversations, inspiring leaders and unforgettable hospitality!

From a warm welcome by Marion Mayor Mike Absher to conversations on downtown revitalization, community transformation and elevating the region’s story with Southern Illinois Now, the cohort gained valuable insights into the power of community leadership, among many other things.

We hope that through this session, the relationships built, lessons learned and ideas exchanged will continue to inspire our DLI class as they return to their communities ready to lead and create meaningful change across the Delta.

Breaking Ground for a Stronger Delta.

Yesterday, we joined community leaders and partners in Clarksdale to celebrate the groundbreaking of the Higher Purpose Center, a transformational investment that will expand access to healthy food, education, arts, wellness and economic opportunity.

Projects like this reflect the power of collaboration and a shared commitment to strengthening communities across the Delta. DRA is proud to support investments that help create vibrant places where people can live, work and thrive.

DRA attended Distinguished Visitors Day during the Innovative Readiness Training (IRT) mission in Marshall, Arkansas, where military and community partners came together to strengthen local communities through service. This is the second IRT mission this summer DRA has helped to deliver no-cost medical care to communities within the Delta region. Thank you to our partners from the Air Force Reserve , Air National Guard and Northwest Arkansas Economic Development District, Inc., for helping to make a lasting and healthy impact across our region.

Calling all residents and neighbors of North Central Arkansas!

The DRA is partnering with the Air Force Reserve, Air National Guard and the Northwest Arkansas Economic Development District, Inc. for an Innovative Readiness Training mission in Marshall, Ark., June 11-24.

Providing no-cost medical, dental, vision and behavioral health services, the mission will serve the residents of Searcy County and nearby communities on a first-come, first-served basis; no income or residency requirements necessary.
