CLARKSDALE CRIME VICTIMS’ SUPPORT GROUP

If you have experienced a traumatic incident as the result of a crime and found creative measures to overcome it or you are still in the healing process, we would like you to join our support group. We want to hear your testimonies of survival and strength in dealing with the aftermath. Are you living in fear?

On Wednesday, February 13, 2013 (the day before Valentine’s Day) at approximately 10:15pm, I was robbed at gunpoint. A small framed black man who appeared to be approximately 5 foot 6/7 inches tall approached my vehicle as I opened my car door to exit. As I continued to exit my car, he demanded that I give him my purse. He was wearing a bright orange mask that covered his nose and the lower portion of his face. Initially, I thought it was someone I knew playing a sick joke. When I completely exited my car, I immediately realized that I was being robbed at gunpoint. I was frantic and probably reacted as any normal person would. I SCREAMED to the top of my lungs. My screaming alarmed my neighbors. One of my neighbors came outside, witnessed the crime in progress and screamed that she was calling the police.

At this point, I had no idea what this man’s intentions were; other than to rob me of my purse and belongings. He appeared to be young, desperate and adamant about not leaving without my purse and something of value. As he fled the scene and other neighbors came forth, I was relieved that I was not harmed physically. The police came within a reasonable amount of time and took a report. As I was being questioned, the Holy Spirit stepped in and took over. I kept thanking GOD over and over for sparing my life. He was all I could focus on during that time. I am a firm believer that GOD is in control and he can step in and change any situation.

He saved my life so I can be a testimony for others. I know that GOD does not want me to sit quietly and live in fear. Fear is not of GOD. Fear can cause a person to miss out on a blessing GOD has in store for us. If we do not use the gifts, talents and skills GOD has blessed us with for his glory, he can easily take it away and give it to someone else.

I am human. So are you. I am not perfect. Neither are you. My faith is strong! So should yours. We all need help sometimes. If you have undergone a traumatic experience similar to mine and it has robbed you of joy and peace of mind, please share your story. I am, along with a few others, in the process of organizing a support group to share our testimonies and how we are coping during the aftermath. WE NEED YOU! Information concerning location, date and time will be announced. I can be contacted at the information listed below.
