Managing and operating a rural hospital is difficult under the best of circumstances; rebuilding services is even more challenging. The executive team at our hospital, Northwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center deserves a standing ovation for working so hard to reopen the Intensive Care Unit at the hospital that was closed several years ago by the former lessee. It took extraordinary effort and diligence for over one and a half years to be able to reopen this vital department of our hospital. Kudos to CEO Lorie Till, CFO Erika Stapleton, COO Sylvester Thornton and the Hospital Board of Trustees, as well as the many members of the staff who made this possible! Thank you, as well, to all those who attended and participated in the reopening ceremony.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony for the reopening of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Northwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center in Clarksdale on Thursday, May 14, was a tremendous success.

The event drew a strong and diverse turnout, including distinguished guests such as Dr. Daniel Edney, State Health Officer for the Mississippi Department of Health; Cindy Bradshaw, Executive Director of the Mississippi Division of Medicaid; State Senator Reginald Jackson; State Representative Otha Williams; along with numerous local elected officials, members of the Hospital Board of Trustees, the Coahoma County Board of Supervisors, and the City’s Mayor and Board of Commissioners.

We were especially honored to have Sadguru Sri Madhusudan Sai as the featured speaker. Through his philanthropic foundations, a generous $1 million contribution was made to support critical equipment upgrades for the hospital’s labor and delivery department, as well as ongoing support for the Satya Sai Sanjeevani healthcare clinic in Clarksdale.

The reopening of the ICU marks a significant milestone for Clarksdale and Coahoma County. It restores the hospital’s ability to provide essential procedures and advanced care that were previously unavailable, and most importantly, allows critically ill patients to receive treatment close to home rather than being transferred to distant facilities.

This achievement reflects a continued commitment to strengthening local healthcare and ensuring that our community has access to high-quality, life-saving services when they are needed most.

Kudos to the outstanding hospital leadership—CEO Lorie Till, COO Sylvester Thornton, and CFO Erika Stapleton—as well as the dedicated physicians, nurses, and staff whose efforts made this day possible.

Dear Friends:

I would like to share with you the invitation to attend the official ribbon-cutting ceremony of the newly reopened Intensive Care Unit at our hospital, which will take place at 9:30 a.m., Thursday, May 14, in the public dining room at the hospital. The public dining room is in the hospital’s cafeteria, which is located on the first floor. We will be joined by, among others, Dr. Daniel Edney, State Health Officer of the Mississippi State Health Department.

The hospital had a fully functioning ICU for decades. It was shut down by the previous lessee. Re-opening the ICU is important to the citizens of Clarksdale and Coahoma County because it will allow the hospital to provide certain services it could not without an ICU, and it will allow many critically ill patients to be treated at home who otherwise would have to be sent to another hospital. This milestone event represents the hospital’s continued commitment to advancing high-quality care close to home, ensuring that our patients and families no longer have to leave the community for many critical services.

We hope each of you will join us for this important event for our city and county, and that you will bring your spouse or a friend. We will have refreshments following the event.

With kindest regards,

Jon
