When running for office Bill Fine and I strongly opposed a 2022 town wide reassessment because home values were unusually inflated. We suggested it be postponed to see if the real estate market would cool off. Taxpayers needed a break after such volatility in the economy caused by the pandemic. At the time, the Town Board voted on going through with it. However, it was actually postponed. In addition, it turns out that Bill and I were correct as the real estate market is starting to level off to more realistic values. Goes to show, even in election losses there are wins. Competition in elections can create positive change for taxpayers and all residents. That said, we are in need of candidates and people to get involved locally so please consider joining in our cause to continually improve our town and overall community…and have fun along the way. Perhaps Assemblyman Hawley should follow suit. The Seymour Library is a unique tri-municipal funded entity that is so important and vital to our community. I’m sure they can use funds to maintain the building in some needed capacity.

If it passes, Clarkson will be in a District that covers from Lewiston (Niagara County) to Alexandria Bay (Jefferson County), almost the entire shoreline of Lake Ontario. It would take you 4 hours to drive from one side to the other.

If approved, the new districts would result in some major changes across central and northern New York. The plans would eliminate the NY-27 currently held by Chris Jacobs.

Today, I vetoed the partisan redistricting legislation submitted late last year by the Republican supermajority. The plan was deeply flawed, lacked transparency and meaningful public input and didn’t provide adequate information about the newly proposed districts.

We must start over with an improved process. That’s why I’m proposing an independent redistricting commission of community representatives and Board of Elections commissioners to ensure voters have confidence the redistricting process is fair and impartial.
