The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a

* Severe Thunderstorm Watch for portions of
Northern Idaho
Western Montana
Central and Eastern Washington

* Effective this Thursday afternoon from 320 PM until Midnight
PDT.

* Primary threats include...
Scattered damaging winds and isolated significant gusts to 75
mph possible Isolated large hail events to 1.5 inches in diameter possible

SUMMARY...Strong to severe thunderstorms are expected to develop late this afternoon through early evening, initially across west-central/northern-central Idaho as well as western Montana and interior Washington. The strongest storms will be capable of large hail and locally damaging winds, and over time, some semi-organized storm clusters could evolve into northern Idaho and eastern Washington later this evening as storms spread north-northwestward.

The severe thunderstorm watch area is approximately along and 180 statute miles east and west of a line from 100 miles north northeast of Spokane WA to 50 miles east southeast of Walla Walla WA.

REMEMBER...A Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area.
Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible warnings.

Heat exhaustion can turn into heat stroke and heat stroke is a medical emergency.

If someone is showing symptoms of heat exhaustion such as nausea, vomiting, headache, muscle cramps, or tiredness/weakness, heavy sweating, or dizziness, act quickly to prevent an emergency. Move into a shaded or air conditioned space, use cool compresses, and sip on a sports drink to replace electrolytes.

Young children and older adults are at an increased risk of heat exhaustion turning into heat stroke. Call 911 or go to the emergency room if symptoms are severe or do not improve after 30 minutes.
