🚩🚩🚩RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM FRIDAY TO 11 PM PDT
SATURDAY FOR WIND AND LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY

A dry cold front will push toward the area Friday and push by Saturday, bringing breezy west to southwesterly winds. Winds will be strongest near the Cascades and Western Columbia Basin. Wind speeds on Friday and Saturday will be similar, with winds on Saturday becoming more widespread in the eastern Columbia Basin.
Combined with low afternoon relative humidity values, poor to fair humidity recoveries at night, hot temperatures and dry fuels, this will bring the potential for critical fire weather conditions.

* Winds: West 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph. Strongest winds Saturday.
* Relative Humidities: 8 to 20 percent in the valleys and 20 to 30 percent in the higher terrain.
* Impacts: Rapid fire spread is possible with any new or ongoing fires.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now....or will shortly. A combination of strong winds...low relative humidity...and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.

Thankfully there were no fire incidents in Asotin County during the Red Flag conditions yesterday, we were very lucky compared to other areas throughout Washington, especially Spokane. But we are NOT out of the woods.

The US National Weather Service Spokane Washington is cautioning that despite cooler temperatures today there is still an elevated risk of wildfire due to winds, low humidity, and dry fuels.

Yesterday Governor Bob Ferguson declared a statewide emergency and issued an emergency burn ban across the state.

We are asking residents to continue to exercise EXTREME CAUTION with regards to activities that could cause a wildfire. Firefighting resources statewide are stretched very thin; the National Guard has been activated to assist, and resources from other states will likely be requested.

🚩 RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT 🚩

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for our region today, with strong winds, low humidity, and critical fire weather conditions creating the potential for rapid wildfire growth.

We ask everyone to do their part today:
🔥 Avoid outdoor burning and campfires
🚫 Do not use fireworks
🚛 Secure trailer chains to prevent sparks
🌾 Stay off dry grass with vehicles
⚠️ Avoid activities that could create sparks, including target shooting and equipment use

With windy conditions expected throughout the day, one small spark can quickly become a large wildfire.

Stay aware. Stay prepared. Help prevent the next wildfire. 🚒🌾🌬️
