Johnson County was created from a portion of Pope County, by the Act of November 16, 1833, and was named Johnson honoring the first Territorial Judge of Arkansas, Judge Benjamin Johnson.

Reminder, we are still under a burn ban in Johnson County. Any rains received have not been enough nor widespread enough to warrant lifting the ban. Due to high heat and drought conditions outdoor burning remains dangerous. Additionally, controlled burns should be called into dispatch (479-774-6911) prior to lighting and they can always let you know if a ban is in effect or not.

The I-40 exit ramps in Clarksville will be closed temporarily for re-paving in the coming weeks. The schedule for closures is as follows:
8 p.m. to 7 a.m. on selected nights:
Exit 58: Sept. 8-10
Exit 57: Sept. 14-17
Exit 55: Sept. 21-24
Please plan accordingly. Any questions or concerns should be addressed to the Arkansas State Highway Department.

Big Piney Creek and Gee Creek - Johnson County
ARDOT Hwy. 123 Bridge Rehabilitations Closure Dates

Work on the Highway 123 bridge over Gee Creek is complete.

Upcoming Closure on the Big Piney Creek Bridge:
Following completion of repairs to the Gee Creek Bridge, the Historic Big Piney Creek Bridge on Highway 123 will be closed for approximately 14 weeks for its own rehabilitation project. Work is expected to begin Monday, August 31, 2026 and continue until December 3, 2026.

A signed detour will be in place. To reach the north side of the closure, traffic will take Highway 123 south to Highway 164, Highway 164 east to Highway 7, then Highway 7 north back to Highway 123. To reach the south side of the closure, traffic will take Highway 123 north to Highway 7, Highway 7 south to Highway 164, then Highway 164 west back to Highway 123.

Weather permitting, the closure will allow crews to perform bridge rehabilitation work. Highway 123 will remain open to local traffic only on either side of the closure.

While utility crews are working diligently many in the County are still without power. Extreme heat is forecast for today. We have partnered with the City and Rural Fire Districts to provide locations for residents to cool off and charge their devices during this event. Additionally, if you need assistance with debris clean up Clarksville First Baptist Church has activated their Disaster Relief Team, you may contact them for more information at (479) 754-3240.

Update: power back on at the landfill so back up and running!
Power has been restored to the Courthouse so offices will be open tomorrow. However the Landfill is still without power at this time, without power the Landfill will not open. Please call ahead or check back for updates. (479) 754-3007. Thank you for your patience.

The Courthouse, Landfill, and all Government Offices are closed due to the wide spread power outage. Reports of several trees down are rolling in, road and emergency crews are working diligently to respond to these calls. Since phones are down you may message us here on trees or call non-emergency dispatch at (479-774-6911). Some routes may be cleared to one lane and will return later for full clean up.
