✨Staff Highlight✨

Occoneechee State Park wants to share a huge thank you to our contact rangers this summer! Every summer, parks around the Commonwealth welcome seasonal employees to work the contact stations to our parks. They're the first face you see upon arrival and are vital to the operation of the park. This summer, Occoneechee was lucky to have Autumn, Holden and Madison crewing the contact station at the entrance to the park.

Madison returned for her third summer here, while Holden and Autumn were newcomers to the park.

🌳Madison's deep passion for the environment and the outdoors motivates her to want to give back to the local environment, and she thought working in parks would be a great way to do that. She loves getting to see a lot of wildlife and talking to all kinds of visitors in the contact station and office. 🌲

👟 Holden loved visiting the park for runs before he started working here. One day, when coming to the office to report a downed limb, he saw a sign indicating that we were hiring, so he decided to apply. He loves Breaking Point Disc Golf Course and the natural beauty of the park. 🥏

🍂Autumn enjoys being outside and felt like working here would be an amazing experience. She loves getting to talk with all the different people that visit the park! 🌻

Summer in state parks would not be possible without people like Madison, Holden and Autumn.

Occoneechee State Park participates in the "Recognize a Ranger" program. If you feel you received exceptional customer service or assistance from one of our volunteers or park rangers, please take the time to recognize their efforts at the link below!

This spring, Occoneechee State Park brought together rangers, volunteers and the Virginia Department of Forestry (DOF) for a special tree‑planting event.

The park planted young white oak seedlings grown from acorns collected at two of Virginia’s most storied trees — centuries-old white oaks at James Madison’s Montpelier and James Monroe’s Highland. Thanks to DOF, a new generation of these historic giants now has a home at Occoneechee State Park.
