June is Invasive Species Awareness Month in Iowa.
What we find very interesting about many of our exotic and invasive plant species is that we brought them here intentionally. Multi-flora Rose was brought in as a natural fencing material. Burning bush was brought in because it was pretty enough to plant around our homes - same with oriental bittersweet, dames rocket and many others.

Are you excited to see the finished prairie display? If so, make sure to join us at the Grand Re-opening of the Allan and Fayette Meyer Nature Center on Saturday, June 20. Ribbon cutting is at 11:00 AM and the open house will last until 2:00 PM. Food, fun and prizes!

Today's Wednesday Wildlife Trivia comes to us from the Shell Rock Recreation Area pond this last spring. This young student caught a nice fish. Can you identify this fish? We hope it won't be too hard for you this week.

May!!
We got busy with school programs, and kinda forgot to post (and sometimes even take) photos from our programs. So take a gander as some of the fun programs we got to be a part of this spring - cooperative games at the 5th grade field day, native tools and games at Dike-New Hartford last day event, and fising with Shell Rock first graders. There were many more spring programs, but these are the few moments we remembered to capture!
Thanks for all the teachers that let us be a part of their educational program throughout the year.
If we haven't had the chance to connect yet, be sure to get ahold of Annette next school year and plan some programming. Annette always loves visiting schools and adding to the science and social studies curriculums as much as possible.

11:00 - Thank you and Ribbon Cutting outside the nature center entry
11 - 2 - Open House to include touring the nature center exhibits and classroom as well as refreshments - sandwiches, fruit, mini-meatballs, lemonade, coffee, and CAKE!!

The Butler County Conservation Board would like to take some time to thank all who made this nature center expansion and new exhibits a reality with donations of time, talent and funding. Come out to see what you are creating and how you are helping us increase visitor knowledge about the outdoors in Butler County. It would not have been possible without out, so come out so we can celebrate with you.
