This mushroom got all dressed up for Beard Day to remind you about the MUSHROOM FORAY this Saturday, September 5 at 10:00 AM. We will meet at the first shelter inside the Heery Woods Park Entrance (19195 Hwy 188, Clarksville).
You can pre-register for the Free, Family-Friendly event at mycountyparks.com, or you can also just walk in the morning of the event.
This foray will be lead by the Prairie States Mushroom Club. Wear shoes and clothes suitable for on and off trail searching. We also recommend bug spray and snacks as well if you need them.

Wednesday Wildlife Trivia this week features a mushroom because we have our Mushroom Foray this Saturday with the Prairie States Mushroom Club (which is an event you really should come to).
This mushroom was found by some campers this summer during Junior Naturalist 1 camp. Can you identify what kind it is? If so, place your answer in the comments, and we will tell you the answer and a little more information on Friday.

Just a little Thursday fun. We recorded all of our animals - except the hissing cockroaches - eating their food this week. Then we compiled it into about a minute video. Take a minute, relax, and enjoy our ambassador animals polishing off some lunch.

Wednesday Wildlife Trivia!!
While out on a little bike ride on Butler County Conservation's own recently, I looked over the river bridge to see multiple turtles swimming near this little "island" of sand under the bridge. I have circled two. Can you tell what kind of turtles they are from this distance? Place your answers in the comments, and find out Friday if you got it right.
They were very shy, and I got a good break while I tried to stay still long enough for them to return.

The Prairie States Mushroom Club is coming to town on Saturday, September 5 for a Mushroom Foray. Participants will split into smaller groups and take to the woodlands with a member of the club. After a morning of finding a collecting the mushrooms we find, all will return to the shelter to learn more about all of these amazing fungi.
Interested? Be sure to register at mycountyparks.com. This event is free and is a family-friendly event!
Wear sturdy shoes, clothes suitable for on and off trail exploration, and maybe a walking stick if you would like. And come ready to see the diversity of mushrooms in the woodlands. All the moisture we have had this summer should make the hunt for mushrooms easier.

Wednesday Wildlife Trivia!!
Let's get back on track this week (after a couple weeks off - we just wanted to give your brains a break 😁 ).
We found this beautiful animal during our Junior Naturalist Level 2 camp. It was still trying to warm up and shake off the dew so it was easy to photograph. Do you know what it is? If so, leave your answer in the comments, and we will let you know Friday if you get it right.

This summer our summer naturalist was Spencer. We hope he had a fun summer learning how to teach in and about the outdoors and nature.
He finished up his summer with us last week, and we wish him the best in his future endeavors.
Enjoy a few pictures from his time with us this summer.

And last, but certainly not least.....we had our last camp of the summer yesterday. The weather forced our Toddler Camp indoors, but we still got to meet some turtles and frogs, jump like frogs, swim under water like turtles, and make masks so we could pretend to be a frog or turtle (or both maybe). This age group is so much fun, and it was the perfect ending to a very busy, educational, and super fun summer.
