Red River County Sheriff's Office Statement Regarding Social Media Video

The Red River County Sheriff's Office is aware of a video circulating on social media depicting a portion of an arrest involving one of our deputies. Due to the attention this incident has received, we believe it is important to provide factual context regarding what occurred.
During the incident, a deputy was attempting to lawfully detain and arrest an individual. The subject was seated inside a vehicle and repeatedly refused the deputy's lawful commands to exit the vehicle. As the deputy attempted to remove the subject from the vehicle, the subject actively resisted by refusing to comply and physically pulling the deputy toward the interior of the vehicle.
Faced with an actively resisting individual and the potential danger created by the struggle inside the vehicle, the deputy used physical force to remove the subject from the vehicle. As a result, the subject fell to the ground during the removal. The force used was intended to overcome the subject's resistance and complete the lawful arrest.
The video currently circulating on social media consists of selected portions of the encounter and does not depict the events leading up to or throughout the entire incident. Short, edited, or partial recordings often do not provide the complete context of rapidly evolving situations that deputies must address while making decisions in the interest of public and officer safety.
The Red River County Sheriff's Office respectfully requests that anyone who possesses video of this incident, particularly the individual who originally posted the clips circulating on social media, publish the complete, unedited recording from beginning to end. Presenting the entire encounter allows the public to see the full sequence of events, including the subject's refusal to comply with lawful commands and the resistance encountered by the deputy. Transparency is best served when all of the facts—not isolated segments—are available for public review.
The Red River County Sheriff's Office is proud of the dedicated men and women who serve this county. It is unfortunate when incomplete or selectively edited videos lead to public criticism of a deputy before the full circumstances are known. Our deputies routinely make difficult decisions in rapidly evolving situations while working to protect the safety of our citizens and themselves. We ask the public to reserve judgment until all available evidence has been reviewed and the complete facts are known.
As with any use-of-force incident, the Sheriff's Office has reviewed, or is in the process of reviewing, all available evidence, and other relevant information to ensure the deputy's actions complied with department policy and applicable law. We remain committed to transparency while also protecting the integrity of any review process and the rights of everyone involved.
The Red River County Sheriff's Office appreciates the community's continued support and trust. We remain dedicated to serving the citizens of Red River County with professionalism, accountability, and integrity.

If you receive a suspicious call claiming to be from the Sheriff’s Office, hang up and call us back using our official phone number to verify the information before taking any action

The Red River County Sheriff’s Office has been made aware of an ongoing scam involving individuals falsely claiming to represent our agency.

Scammers are contacting people by phone and email, telling them they have outstanding warrants. They then instruct victims to purchase Bitcoin, send the payment, and bring the receipt to the Sheriff’s Office, falsely claiming it will serve as a bond and that the money will be refunded.

THIS IS A SCAM!

The scammers are using fraudulent email addresses, including:

This email address is NOT associated with the Red River County Sheriff’s Office.

The Red River County Sheriff’s Office will never instruct you to purchase or send Bitcoin or any other cryptocurrency to post bond, pay a warrant, or avoid arrest.

If you receive one of these calls or emails:

• Do not send money.
• Do not purchase Bitcoin or cryptocurrency.
• Do not provide personal or financial information.
• Contact the Red River County Sheriff’s Office directly using our official phone number 903-427-3838 if you have any questions.

The Red River County Sheriff's Office is warning residents about a bond scam targeting families of recently arrested individuals.
Scammers are contacting family members and claiming a loved one can be released from jail if bond money is sent immediately through cash apps, gift cards, wire transfers, cryptocurrency, or other electronic payment methods. In some cases, the caller may pretend to be a law enforcement officer, bondsman, or court official and may use urgent or threatening language to pressure victims into paying quickly.
Please remember:
• The Sheriff’s Office will never demand payment over the phone.
• We do not accept bond payments through Cash App, Venmo, gift cards, cryptocurrency, or prepaid debit cards.
• Do not give personal or financial information to unknown callers.
• If you receive a suspicious call regarding an inmate or bond payment, hang up and contact the jail or Sheriff’s Office directly using official phone numbers.
If you believe you have been targeted or victimized by this scam, please report it to the Red River County Sheriff's Office immediately.

Red River County and TxDOT Partner to Promote Traffic Safety Through STEP Grant and Operation Slow Down

RED RIVER COUNTY, Texas — During a recent meeting of the Red River County Commissioners Court, Monica Yates presented information regarding the Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) Grant and the upcoming Operation Slow Down traffic safety campaign, highlighting the continued partnership between Red River County and the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT).
Yates explained that the STEP Grant provides funding and support for increased traffic enforcement efforts aimed at reducing crashes, injuries, and fatalities on Texas roadways. Through this partnership, local law enforcement agencies are able to dedicate additional patrols and enforcement efforts during high-risk traffic periods.
As part of the initiative, Red River County will participate in Operation Slow Down, a targeted traffic enforcement campaign focused on reducing speeding and encouraging safer driving habits throughout the county. The campaign will include increased patrol visibility, speed enforcement, and public awareness efforts designed to remind motorists to obey posted speed limits and drive responsibly.
“TxDOT and Red River County are working together to make our roads safer for everyone,” Yates told Commissioners Court. “These programs help provide the resources needed to reduce dangerous driving behaviors and protect the public.”
County officials emphasized that speeding continues to be a major factor in traffic crashes across Texas, and programs like Operation Slow Down are intended to increase awareness while preventing accidents before they occur.
The Commissioners Court expressed appreciation for the continued cooperation between TxDOT and local law enforcement agencies in promoting roadway safety and protecting Red River County residents and visitors.
